There are a number of different camps when it comes to using a digital bathroom scale as part of a weight loss plan. Some people say that you should weigh yourself every single day while others on the other end of the extreme say you shouldn’t weigh yourself at all and only go by your belt size or other measurements.
I am in the camp of weighing yourself every day as I believe it is important to get that daily reminder of where you have been, where you are and where you want to be in terms of losing weight. Personally, I need that motivation.
It is simply too easy to get derailed on your diet plan if you don’t weigh yourself every day, in my opinion. So, get yourself a great bathroom scale and kick butt on losing that weight!
What should you look for in a digital bathroom scale? Well I believe the most important aspect is to find a review done by someone who is actually using the product. One of the first things I did when I started my weight loss plan was to invest in a new digital scale, the Tanita BF-683W Body Fat/Body Water Feature Scale. I can’t recommend this scale enough! Of course Tanita is a trusted brand, and this scale offers a number of outstanding features including the ability to measure body fat % and body water %.
One great feature of this scale is the ability for 4 different family members to track their statistics independently from each other. Battery life is outstanding and the scale is rated to 330 pounds should you need something durable. This scale earns my personal recommendation - Gold medal winner. |

The Omron Body Fat Monitor and Scale is a lower cost option than the Tanita, but that doesn’t mean it still isn’t a great option. I have owned an Omron digital pedometer and know Omron to be another quality brand.
While this digital scale does not measure body water % it does measure weight, body fat percentage, and body mass index (BMI). Like the Tanita, it supports up to four personal profiles that can be used by different family members. The one thing that you should be aware of with this digital scale is that in order for the BMI calculation to work you must be within a certain height range (3’4″ to 6′ 6-3/4″) and age range (10 to 79 years). Of course that covers most everyone! If you would like to save a few bucks from the Tanita then I think this would be a good pick for you. |

Of the three award-winning digital bathroom scales, the Weight Watchers Digital Scale is the least expensive, but don’t let that scare you off. This looks to still be a good quality digital scale, albeit one with a very limited feature set.
Unlike the first two scales that measure everything from weight, to body fat % to body water % (only the Tanita) this one does one thing well - measures your weight. The reason this one won my bronze medal award is for the simplicity of operation, the maximum weight capacity of 330 pounds, and the elegant look of the glass and chrome design. I used a similar scale at an upscale hotel recently and thought it looked really great.
