I found a really great website this morning called 43 Things. It's a goal setting and sharing website. What's really cool about the site is how "sticky" it is – because everyone's goals are visible and they employ things like tag clouds you can very easily see who else shares common goals and you can literally lose yourself in exploring what other people are doing and how they are progressing towards their goals.

Here is my goal page. Still working out the best way to use it. When you look at goals like "lose weight" you'll see over 20,000 people share the same goal. But really the way the site works it is much better to set very specific goals like "lose 8 pounds in September" because at the end of the month you can mark it off as complete and then set another goal. You can set personal challenge goal, set reminders, etc. For example on my "run a 10k" goal I have set a reminder to my future self, 6 months out, to see how I am progressing on the goal. Obviously my "run a 5k" goal will need to be completed first. There is also an integration with WordPress that I'll have to take the time to figure out.

Check out 43 Things – I think you'll have fun with it.

I'm going a little off-topic here, so forgive me if all you want to hear about is my fat! Yesterday DreamHost, the web hosting provider I use, suffered some sort of network outage for most of the afternoon. This effected not only my site but from what I could tell pretty much any site hosted on DreamHost. They characterized it by network slowness, but what I saw was a complete outage. You couldn't even get to the DreamHost front page. And then even though they host the DreamHost Status page on a different network (a good idea!) it too was down for awhile, most likely due to heavy load.

Now, up to now I have had little to complain about at DreamHost. They are cheap, and they have a cool deal where the longer you are as a customer the more bandwidth and disk space you get. I really like that approach. I like many of their features like one-click installs. And I like their blog. So, I am going to stay with them and hope that they are able to learn from this outage so it doesn't happen again.

If you are looking for a web host provider I would still recommend DreamHost at this time. However, if you wanted to check out some of the competition in this space you can research other web hosting packages.
