Men who haven’t worked out in a while often wonder how to get started. Having a lot of weight on you can make you feel tired and intimidated by starting a new workout routine. These easy exercises can help you get started so you can work your way up to more challenging fitness routines.

Walking

If you’re looking for easy exercises to lose weight, you can’t go wrong with walking. Even if you haven’t done any working out in quite some time and you’ve become overweight, walking is low-impact and only requires a comfortable pair of shoes. Walk around your neighborhood, a local high school track or at the gym.

Swimming

Swimming is another great exercise for men who avoid working out. It’s low-impact and easy on aching joints. You don’t have to be a good swimmer to get a good workout in the water. Just get your arms and legs moving and your heart-rate up and you’ll be off to a good start. You may also try some water classes offered at your local gym for added strength and cardio benefits!

Hiking

When you hike, you don’t feel like you’re working out. Start off with the easy trails at a local park and get back in touch with nature. Once you do it for a while, hiking will become easy and something you’ll look forward to sharing with a significant other or friend!

Body-Weight Workout

When you’re trying to lose weight and get back into shape, doing a body-weight workout can be a great way to get started. Put a chair behind you and do squats. Get down on the floor and do a few push-ups. If you’ve got a solid, sturdy door you can try door pull-ups. There are literally hundreds of body-weight exercises out there. Just do an Internet search and see!

Step Exercises

Easy exercises don’t get much easier than this. If you want to do cardio and lose weight, use your own stairs! This can be as simple as climbing up and down just 2-3 times to start and working your way up from there. It may not be the most exciting workout you’ve ever gotten but it will get the job done.

Jogging in Place

If you’ve gotten a little heavier than you want to be and don’t feel comfortable jogging around the neighborhood, start by jogging in place. Find a room where you won’t feel self-conscious working out and turn on your favorite up-tempo music. Jog in place for a few minutes, rest, then start again. If you haven’t worked out in a while or you suffer from any type of respiratory problem as a result of your weight, you’ll want to start slow.

Jumping Rope

Jumping rope can be a lot of fun if you’ve got the room and the coordination. Start out slow and jump for a few minutes and see how you feel. Then, work your way up as you get used to this low-impact way of working out.

If you have a serious medical condition, consult your physician before starting any new fitness program.

Even if you haven’t seen the inside of a gym in years (or your feet for a similar amount of time), you can still lose weight and keep it off using these easy exercises. Working out doesn’t have to be discouraging or dangerous. Just start out slow and increase your time as your body gets used to the work. Eventually, it won’t feel effort and you’ll be amazed at the results!
