Effects of Blogging and Fitness in Health and Weight Loss

Life is messy. It’s complicated and frustrating and stressful. We might go through days or weeks, months or years where everything seems to be working against us, and there doesn’t seem like there’s any way out. When we hit places like this in our lives we have a few choices:

  1. Stay down, be bummed and just take in sympathy as it comes;
  2. Seek outside help through a counselor or mentor;
  3. Pull ourselves up and find happiness where there otherwise wasn’t any.

If you’re like me and you’re too stubborn to be unhappy or to ask for help, the 3rd option might be the only one. So how does someone do this? One way is with exercise and writing. Over the years, I found that physical exercise as well as mental exercise, like that involved in writing a blog, have helped me enormously to release tension, let go of negative feelings and stress and deal with life’s hardships in a more positive way.

In this article, I explain in greater detail how expressing yourself through a blog, together with physical exercise can empower you and turn you into a stronger, more capable and confident person.

Be Mentally and Emotionally Stronger

No matter if you come from a medical or spiritual point of view, our minds are connected to our bodies. Psychosomatic illnesses involving stress and anxiety are very prevalent and many people with positive thoughts and encouragement have help healed faster than people with negative thoughts.

When we exercise our bodies, we build physical strength in our muscles and mental strength from the confidence, change, and energy we find from the same motions.

In the same way, writing can build mental and emotional strength. By putting our thoughts onto paper or into a blog, we empower ourselves to be heard. When others can hear our voice, they can relate to our thoughts and feelings, and even reach back with encouragement and find words of their own.

Gain Confidence

The more you exercise and write, the more confident you will become in those activities and in other aspects of your life. Exercising can make you feel happier, encourage creativity, boost energy levels, and clear your mind so you can focus on your work or relationships. So you can see that there is a direct link between exercising, losing weight, feeling good and gaining more confidence.

When we feel better in our bodies, it’s easier to feel better about the rest of our lives. Exercise can make us lose weight, tone up, find strength and gain flexibility—making our clothes fit better and letting us feel more comfortable in our own skin.Most weight loss and exercise programs, like Weight Watchers and TRX believe that there is an indisputable relation between weight loss and confidence.

The same happens with blogging. Blogging exercises our communication muscles and ultimately gives us the confidence we need to deal with other issues in life. For example, when I was in high school, my writing was terrible. So, I started a journal, wrote in it every day, and over the years found a huge improvement in my style and voice. My writing confidence made me a better communicator, public speaker and student.

Fuel Writing with Exercise

Exercise and writing are an excellent duo. Award-winning Japanese author Haruki Murakami (Kafka On the Shore, 1Q84, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle) attributes much of his writing to exercise. Since he started writing, he has been a runner, running about 60k each week. He said the calm clarity he receives while running helps prepare him for a day of writing.

Whether you find that exercise can give you calm before a “writing storm” or if you find inspiration while you are working out, these two empowering activities help each other—and help you—become great.
