- Total weight lost: 18 lbs
When I started thinking about writing this post I visualized myself writing that I was very disappointed in myself. Why? Because I didn’t have the greatest week and I thought I only lost a pound. Then I realized that it was hard to be “very” disappointed in myself when I did at least a few positive things and saw yet another loss on the scale.
Disappointed, sure. But very disappointed? I’d better leave that for a truly bad week.
Then after I updated my weight loss chart I noticed that it looked like I had a two pound loss this week. I knew that wasn’t right so I checked my data thinking I had forgot to update the graph last week and I found the data to be accurate.
Holy smokes, for some reason I had thought I started the week at 287 but it was really 288. Probably it was because last week I was almost to 287 with a weigh-in of exactly 288.0. So it was a pleasant surprise to see a 2 pound loss this week. Over the course of my challenge I need to average 1.25 pounds lost per week which means I’ll need to mix in the occasional 2 pound loss with those 1 pound loss weeks like last week and I will be just fine.
I still feel like I am at the easy part of my weight loss journey, but I’m not going to dwell on that. I can keep on doing this even when it gets harder.
Things I did well this week:
- Repeated my mantra “Vegas, baby, Vegas” numerous times every day, which helped keep me focused on making better decisions
- Drank a lot of water every day - although I have found it’s harder to do after work
- Very few eating slip-ups
- Started the week with 2 successive days of burning off over 1,000 calories on the elliptical.
Things I did not so well this week:
- After getting off to a great start with exercise on Monday and Tuesday I dropped off and didn’t work out the rest of the week.
- I stopped in at McDonald’s for breakfast one day this week, a Sausage Egg McMuffin and a hashbrown.
- Grazed on some of my wife’s leftovers that I didn’t need to eat.
- Didn’t post any original material either here or on fatbloggers.
That last one is pretty disapointing to me - while I did post a few guest posts here this week those really aren’t about my journey, and I know that writing about my weight loss journey is an important component to being successful. So the fact that I was too lazy to write has me a little worried. Need to do better this week.
Speaking of this week, it’s going to be a difficult one. I’ll be in Chicago for three days and already have a couple of group lunches and dinners planned. Very, very easy to do poorly in those situations. I’m really going to have to focus on good decisions this week.
Ten losses in eleven weeks - a promising start to my goal of losing 40 pounds by June 30th, 2011.
