Countdown to Vegas - Week 6

December 26, 2010 · 4 comments

  • Diet starting weight: 304
  • Week starting weight: 294
  • Today’s weight: 292
  • Week weight loss: 2 lbs
  • Total weight lost: 12 lbs

This is my sixth weekly loss in a row in my Countdown to Vegas challenge, averaging a 2 pound loss per week. I’m like a machine that can’t be stopped! I am pretty sure that even when I was at my weight loss best a few years ago that I never strung together this many consecutive weeks losing weight. Last week I bemoaned the fact that I still lost weight despite a week of mostly poor decisions. This week I knew was going to be extra challenging because of the Christmas season and because I was out of town for the start of the week, so I really buckled down and did much better and the results show it.

The key for me this week was planning the week out ahead of time, something I plan to do again. It was very helpful to think about each day and realize that it would be easy to stick to my plan and where I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, like on Christmas Eve, I gave my self permission to go a little over the top, as long as I entered the day showing a weight loss (which I had) and that I was prepared to “go lean” the next day, which I was.

I’m planning to buy an elliptical this week so I should be adding in some serious exercise soon. For now, at my weight, simply moderating my eating as allowed me to get off to a great start.

Things I did well this week:

  • Repeated my mantra “Vegas, baby, Vegas” numerous times every day, which helped keep me focused on making better decisions
  • Drank a lot of water every day
  • Stuck to my eating plan almost to a tee
  • Bought good food from grocery store rather than dining out when I was traveling for work
  • Good focus on my eating on Saturday after going a little overboard on Christmas Eve

Things I did not so well this week:

  • I did plan to enjoy myself on Christmas Eve, but I didn’t need to eat as much rib roast and gravlax as I did
  • Grazed on some peanut brittle. I don’t mind a little sweet-tooth cheating but grazing directly out of the box is not the way to do it

This week should be another week that I can do well with, however it could get off to a bad start as we are hosting our family Christmas today, the day after Christmas. I’m making a boneless leg of lamb and the butcher gave me a bigger one than I needed, almost 11 pounds! Family meals are always hard for me because I like to try what everyone brings, and I tend to nibble while I cook as well. Plus with 11 pounds of lamb and probably less than 20 people, we’ll have tons of leftovers. Did I mention the lasagna I made too? Whew, I’m starting to think the leftovers could be my undoing this week. I’ll really need to focus on getting people to gorge themselves today and to bring leftovers home so they won’t be tempting me in the house.

Looking forward to another great week!

Six weeks, six losses - a promising start to my goal of losing 40 pounds by June 30th, 2011.

Great job! I have to admit I am afraid what the scale will tell me tomorrow for my weigh in. I usually weigh myself daily then officially on Monday … Well being at home means no good scale. I at a lot for both our family gatherings so I guess we will see.
