EatSmart Bathroom Scale Review

December 18, 2010 · 8 comments

Be sure to read through to the bottom of this post to learn how to win your own bathroom scale and kitchen scale!

Disclaimer: EatSmart sent me this product sample to review, however I am under no obligation to do so nor to make the review positive. This review reflects my personal opinion about this product.

Up until a couple of years ago I didn’t know much about bathroom scales. I always had one around somewhere, usually the mechanical kind you would find at Target that was white plastic with a red needle and big black numbers on the dial. I don’t know that there was much in the way of technological improvements in bathroom scales from the 70s to the 90s, or at least there wasn’t in my house.

But over the past couple of years I have had the opportunity to try out a number of different scales and written a few bathroom scale reviews. It’s amazing what you can get in a scale these days! Some go for the whiz-bang approach of providing more than just weight and others go for simplicity and elegenace. The bathroom scale I am reviewing today, the EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale, is one of the latter.

Glass scales are very popular if my reader’s buying habits are to be believed, but I’ve never thought they would work for me because when you are big, stepping on a glass platform just doesn’t seem like a great idea. But this scale is very sturdy, there is absolutely no feeling like it wouldn’t support all of my weight, so I really do believe the 400 pound capacity it claims.

There are a number of features I like about this scale:

  • Large blue LED screen
  • “Step On” technology means you don’t have to tap the scale to wake it up - just get on it!
  • Large 12″ by 13″ tempered glass platform
  • Super solid feel
  • Nice to look at

The one thing I don’t like about this scale, and it seems to be pretty common in the scales I have used, is that the graduation increments are in .2 pounds, rather than .1 pounds. Now when I report my weight I round anyway, so it isn’t a big deal for me, but why not utilize a normal graduation?

Despite that one minor criticism, this is a beautifully designed and simply elegant scale that no big guy should be afraid to stand on.

The winner of my contest won’t get their prize before Christmas but EatSmart is having their own contest to win an EatSmart kitchen scale and they are committing to get the winner their prize before Christmas! I own the EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale, although I use it in my workshop rather than my kitchen.

Sounds like a much better scale than the old thing we own. I’d love to win this scale!

I follow and like them and wanna win! Not that I want to see my (over) weight numbers regularly though…

Hi John. Seen your tweet and thought…yes I could use a new scale. Let my 14 year old son borrow my good digital scale to use at his mom’s house during wrestling so he could monitor his weight. Which leaves me with the fancy mechanical scale…lol.

Hope things are going good. Happy Holidays and thanks for the review.

I’m not sure if my previous comments went through, but…

I want to win this scale so I don’t have to use the notoriously inaccurate one at the gym.

Actually, we kinda lost faith in the accuracy of our Wii Fit board when it showed I gained 11 pounds in one week… and that she had also gained a similar amount and I know we both had been doing better than that. I think a new scale would be great.
