Rate My Meals – 2010-11-30

Do you know what a sport pepper is? It’s a quintessential ingredient in a Chicago Style Hot dog - a pickled Serrano pepper, I’d say they have a medium heat. I found a jar in the grocery store the other day so I started to put them to use today, you’ll see them in both my lunch and dinner. I mention the sport pepper because I almost had a very bad experience at lunch today. I’m sitting at my desk, fork in hand, and one of the first bites of my lunch I choose to stab at a sport pepper with the fork. What I stab is filled with medium-hot pickled pepper juice and it squirts right in my eye. A lot of juice. Man, my eye was watering for a few minutes - not a good feeling. I’m just glad I hadn’t found a jar of pickled ghost peppers - I might not have survived.

Today was great, got in a second day in a row of strength training and I think I ate well. Tomorrow could be another thing entirely if I am not careful. I should be able to workout in the morning and have oatmeal again for breakfast, but then I’ll be at an all-day conference where the invite uses phrases like:

  • Lunch will be served from 12:00pm until 1:30pm.
  • Immediately following the keynote*, plan to attend the Cocktail Reception. The hosted reception features cocktails and alcohol-free beverages, as well as tasty hors d’ouvres!

* This conference is doing the keynote at the end, which is weird.

That does not bode well for me. Help me find the strength I need!

Anyway, first things first, let’s take a look at my meals for today:

Healthy Meals

Breakfast was oatmeal with pomegranate seeds, a banana, 8 oz of spicy hot V8, and a yogurt. Lunch was a bento box with a chilled chicken breast (6oz pre-cooked weight) on top of a bed of herb greens, a small portion of pomegranate salad dressing, grapes, mandarin oranges, baby carrots, a yogurt and a selection of olives, pickles and the aforementioned sport peppers. Dinner was a chopped salad with herb greens, baby carrots, a tomato, cold peas, more sport peppers, 2 mini portobello mushrooms, a baby cucumber, half an orange bell pepper, half a small fennel bulb, salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar. My wife made a crockpot dish of chicken thighs with black bean salsa and I had a portion of about 4 oz of that, washed it down with a glass of skim milk. Small dish of strawberries for dessert and then later a small bunch of grapes for a snack.

I really think I ate well today, although I am guessing people will not like the olives, pickles and sport peppers I had with lunch. But I’ll tell you what, as soon as I truly get nit-picked like that rather than questioning whether I really needed that Large Potato Ole’ from Taco John’s, well then I know I’m doing fine.

So how do you think I did? Click a star!

Back on the amount of items you eat, do you find yourself full before you finish your lunch? Your lunch seems like it is really big. I just had a thought that if you spread your lunch out over the day more than at one meal you may not feel hungry at all during the day. (not sure if you are now)

The calories for the day seem about right to me, but I am a hardcore tracker of my intake and I enter everything, so it does make me uncomfortable just guessing.
