Most people are aware that losing weight is all about getting fit. If you increase the amount of exercise you do as well as cut out junk food from your diet then you should start to see results relatively quickly. There’s definitely a right and wrong way to try and get fit though. Here are some fitness tips for losing weight.

  1. Losing weight is largely about your mindset. Try not to think of exercising as a way to get skinny because you may not see results straight away. Instead you should be exercising to get healthy and consider weight loss as a bonus. It might sound like a strange tip for someone that wants to lose weight but it’s a very important one.

  2. Recent studies have shown that you need to be doing around 150 minutes of exercise a week to stay healthy and 250 minutes to lose weight. From these figures you can immediately see why a lot of people find it hard to lose weight. You shouldn’t feel you have to go from no exercise to 250 minutes a week straight away but that should be your goal.

  3. Choosing exercises that you enjoy is vital for your long term success. A great way to have more fun at the gym or while exercising is to find a partner to do it with. You could also help each other to stay motivated. The best thing about exercise is that once you start doing it regularly you’ll begin to find it fun. Exercise releases endorphins into the body which make us feel happy and hence it can become addictive to a certain extent.

  4. Keeping track of everything you’re doing to get fit is also important because you need some way of tracking your progress other than how much weight you’ve lost. If you keep a journal a quick glance will tell you how far you’ve progressed and how far you have to go to meet your targets.

At its most basic level losing weight isn’t difficult – just don’t eat as much and exercise more. The hard part is keeping an exercise program going for long enough to see real weight loss results. Finding something you enjoy that burns calories is key for this reason. You could even consider joining an online support group where people give each other advice and encouragement as this can help you to stay focused. If you have to report your exercise achievements each week it’s a lot more difficult to skip a session.

I definitely agree with the mindset. If you do not have the correct mindset then you are set to fail before you even begin. "Those against their will are of the same opinion still". I think you almost have to be obsessive compulsive in your weight loss efforts and I see no problem with being that way. What ever works.
