When most people think of getting in shape, they think of daily trips to the gym or fitness centre. For those with a busy life, there is usually not enough time in the day or evening to go to a gym. However, there are many ways to get exercise that can be fun and do not require making extra time.

The following are five unusual ways to get exercise:

  1. We have all heard the phrase, “laughter is the best medicine,” however most people do not realize that it is also a great way to burn calories. A Vanderbilt University study revealed that genuine laughter will “burn more 10 to 20% more calories.” Take time each day to find a way to laugh such as watching a comedy TV show, seeing a comedy movie in a theatre, going to a stand- up comedy show, and getting together with friends socially to have a fun chat.
  2. Starting a neighborhood walk group is a great and fun way to get exercise. Ask your friends and neighbors to join you on a nightly walk. You can also take your dog with you. You can get some exercise and catch up with others on events of the day. With other people involved, you will be more likely to stay with the routine.
  3. Get exercise while you are at work. For instance, there are now mini-treadmill desks on the market that allow you to walk while you are at you are desk. The mini-treadmill desk has all of the features of a regular desk but come with a treadmill attached. You can sit at your desk and use a treadmill at the same time. There are also mini-steppers that you can purchase that fit right under your desk.
  4. Dancing is a great way to get some exercise. Whether its ballet, country, ballroom, hip-hop, or night club dancing, you will definitely tone your muscles, increase your heart rate, and lose weight. You will not only listen to great music, but it is a fun activity and you will meet a lot of new people.
  5. Many people do not realize that they can get fit and lose weight working around the home. For instance gardening involves manual work such as pushing a wheel barrow and tilling the soil. Cleaning the home will tighten the muscles and burn calories. Scrubbing, sweeping, wiping, vacuuming, moving furniture, and hanging out the clothes, all contribute to creating a fit body. As well, mowing the lawn, painting the house, cleaning out the garage, and doing the laundry all provide a great way to get exercise.

It is common knowledge that getting at least 30 minutes of exercise each day will contribute to overall good health and relief of stress. It can also you help you get cheap health insurance quotes. Fortunately, there are many ways to get exercise without spending a lot of money and giving up valuable time. With a bit of creativity and commitment, in know time you will be looking good and feeling great.
