The day started in the hotel again and once more I found myself at my nemesis, the breakfast buffet. But once again I think I did pretty well. I didn't try the oatmeal this time, but overall one gentle trip to the buffet is a big win in my book. I'll be doing a lot of travel over the next few months so this is a good habit to be in - being good at buffets, taking one trip only, and holding myself accountable by taking photos. So far so good.

I think I had a good day today.

Big Salad and Breakfast Buffet

As I mentioned, I started the day out at the breakfast buffet. I had pretty much the same as yesterday although instead of the oatmeal I had an extra blintz and a little extra egg, and instead of the pineapple I had honeydew melon. I love ripe honeydew. We used to call them muskmelons when I was a kid, I think, but really a muskmelon is the class of fruit that has honeydew as a member. A cantaloupe is also a muskmelon. Or at least that is what wikipedia says. So you know it's true. You can't really see it but I did have a sausage link too.

I took a coworker out to lunch, letting him choose the locale and of course he picked a steak house. But while he had a steak with a loaded sweet potato I managed to contain myself to a large lettuce salad topped with grilled chicken. Had a side of blue cheese dressing. A couple of nibbles of pumpernickel bread. Pretty good lunch.

Big Salad

I'm actually including a different view of the salad I had for dinner, which I made at home having returned from my trip. Nice to have fresh (well, mostly fresh I bought them this weekend) veggies when you get home. This view is my mise en place before mixing up the salad. Probably looks like a lot but it really wasn't: handful of baby greens, 1 tomato, 1 cucumber, half cup of baby carrots, half a fennel bulb, half an orange pepper, half a yellow pepper, a jalapeno, a green onion, 2 shredded radishes, 1 baby portabello mushroom and 1 avocado. No dressing other than salt and pepper. Served with several pineapple wedges, 8 crackers and a yogurt for dessert.

Good to be home.

So how do you think I did? Click a star!

Ah! Breakfast buffets. Was yours the kind with biscuits and gravy? That's tough to turn down!

When you go out on the town like this, do you have a difficult time trying to estimate calories? The chicken salad is making me hungry.
