Last night I didn’t eat in the hotel because it was too expensive but I didn’t have that problem this morning for breakfast because there was a breakfast buffet included in the price of the hotel room. If you know anything about the struggles of a guy like me you are wincing to yourself thinking about how I may have performed at the trough of a hot breakfast buffet. That is normally a concern I would share but this morning I was determined, partly because of this crazy taking pictures of my food stuff, to behave myself at breakfast.

I think I succeeded, what do you think?

Ahi Tuna Lobster Bisque

Breakfast buffet. These are usually very tough for me but I set out to do well and I think I did. Only one trip to the buffet, where I had a single sausage link, a couple of scrambled eggs, some pineapple, a yogurt, a small cheese blintz and believe it or not a bowl of oatmeal. My wife always gets oatmeal at buffets and I’ve never understood it. But I’ve been eating oatmeal lately so I tried a bowl with a little brown sugar and some raisins. Frankly, it wasn’t very good. I only ate about a third of the bowl.

As often happens when I travel for business I skipped lunch because I was too busy and then took a coworker out for dinner. The restaurant was dark so the pictures aren’t very good. Dinner was a cup of lobster bisque (so good but I don’t want to know how many calories), a couple of small pieces of bread, a beer (which is in the picture but hard to see), a glass of really delicious Reisling and for the entree a rare seared ahi tuna served with a little rice and a side of asian slaw that was tossed with a light vinaigrette. No dessert.

So today was kind of a mixed bag depending on how you look at things. On the one hand I think I did well at the buffet but on the other hand you can still make an argument that even though I think I did well in comparison to how I would normally do that I still ate too much. I don’t think so but I can see why someone else might think that. Obviously I know skipping lunch isn’t good, and while I think I made good decisions at dinner, far better than I may have made otherwise, I obviously know how I could have done either better. But I still think I did pretty well.

So how do you think I did? Click a star!

Good attempt at the oatmeal! It’s not for everyone. :)

John - I’ve been following your blog for a few weeks now. I recently started my own fitness journey, as well.

Nice job on making only 1 trip to the buffet and for making a good dinner choice. I can relate to how difficult it is to eat healthy while traveling.

I’ll continue to check in from time to time. Good luck!

I’m shuddering at the idea of being able to control myself at a breakfast buffet. Seriously, I’m salivating at your pictures.

My hat is off to you for being strong and resisting. Keep it up!

I will give you a pass today as I think you did well at the buffet. I love breakfast so would struggle to restrict portions there as well.

@seth You are telling me! I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to be going for the oatmeal again this morning. Like I said, it really wasn’t very good. But I’ll be doing breakfast earlier this morning and maybe it will be better then.

@mike Thanks for stopping by Mike, I’ll check out your blog as well. Welcome!

@100 Just be glad I didn’t post pictures of other goodies like french toast, waffles, corn beef hash, biscuits and gravy, etc etc!

@andrew I’ll take the pass! ;-)
