I’m writing this from a hotel room in Chicago, with no television to have on in the background because they use satellite and we got a bunch of snow last night. I’m just assuming their dish needs to be swept off. Maybe I’m wrong. I flew this time but I’m seriously thinking of just driving it next time. It was almost 5 hours from the time I left my house in MN to arriving at the hotel in IL and I can do that drive in about 6. That way I would have my own all-wheel drive car instead of this rental that will handle this snow who knows how well. And that 5 hours was with only a minor delay, which is not always the case. Sometimes it can be much more. Of course I won’t have that option later when I need to be in UT and GA.

So a mixed bag this day because I’m on the road again. I also didn’t get to take a picture of the airline peanuts that I ate. 140 calories for the two small packets they gave me. I did just have water though.

Here’s the rest of the day:

Mushroom omelet

Breakfast was a super yummy mushroom omelet, dry toast and an orange. I sauteed the mushrooms in a little butter and then deglazed with Sherry. Normally I would use rosemary in this but I didn’t have any fresh so I went without. There was also a slice of provolone. Had a banana for a mid-morning snack.

For lunch I had a small baby green salad with just a little balsamic vinegar, three radishes and a piece and a half of my wife’s leftover cannelloni from her previous night out with the girls (ok, maybe a piece and three quarters. How does she just eat a quarter of a piece?? But I am grateful she ordered the extra piece for me). It was so good. I also nibbled on a couple of extra pieces of some chicken dish but I didn’t grab the photo.

Dinner was in Chicago, they have a restaurant in the hotel here but the prices were outrageous so I drove around looking for a good place to catch some good cheap food. My options were White Castle, Burger King or Panda Express. I chose the latter although in hindsight I should have chosen BK because I think they have some healthier options to choose from. I had the Kung Pao chicken with noodles. I think they may have given me more than normal portion size because they were about to close and they just wanted to get rid of their surplus food. I ended up only eating about half of it. I forgot to take a picture of the fortune cookie.

I feel good about the day except for dinner, while I’m glad I only ate half just looking at that picture makes me a little ill - that’s a big plate of food and it is certainly not lo-cal.

So how do you think I did? Click a star!

It can get hard to resist all of the goodies while on the road. Stay focused.

I have to admit I would never even dream of going to Burger King for a meal now.

Hi!

You had left me a comment this weekend and I just also returned from a work business trip (and my blog!!). This post definitely spoke to me, since I know how hard it is to eat while you’re away. It’s bad when BK is the best option! I can’t wait to read your other days to see how you stay focused since I can use all the ideas I can get for business travel.

Thanks for your comment! I look forward to “following” you! <3

As I sit here in my suburban Chicago public library eating carrots and drinking tea, I am enjoying the pictures of your food.

@seth It sure can be hard, but on the other hand I don’t find myself in as many grazing situations because I typically don’t have food all around me like I would at home, so there are plusses and minuses.

@andrew Do you agree that there could be healthy options at a place like BK, and you stay away on principle or is it more that even the “healthy” options are not as good as you could find elsewhere, convenience aside?

@megan Thanks for stopping by Megan, looking forward to hearing more from you!

@frank Carrots and tea sounds like a healthy snack, I know for me I have been drinking hot decaf tea at night to help keep the food cravings down and so far it has been working.
