Rate my Meals - 2010-02-12

Don't just look at the picture and conclude that is what I ate all day yesterday (yes, posting this late again, hoping I'll be able to get on track today) - I have a couple of good reasons for missing a few things, and when you rate my meals you need to consider everything. If you want, of course. You could just rate how pretty the picture is, that would be fine too.

First of all, I took a job candidate out to lunch at Timber Lodge Steakhouse. I would have taken the picture, even in that situation, however I left my cell phone in the car and it would have seem sort of odd to run out there to get it.

Then I took my kids and a friend of my son to see The Lightning Thief, and I didn't want to try to snap a picture of what I ate there in the dark theatre. So not great excuses, but that's all I have.

So let's look at the details:

Daily Food

I started off pretty well with breakfast although it seems like some people would probably disagree with all the fruit. Oatmeal, banana, two clementines and a half cup or so of fresh pineapple (I've got a few cups left before it's time to buy more).

As mentioned I didn't take a picture of my lunch but I had a bowl of wild rice soup and a small salad with blue cheese. As it was I only ended up eating half the soup and a quarter of the salad so I would say I did pretty well even though the cream soup and blue cheese dressing were not great options.

After I got home we went straight to the movie and my daughter and I split a soft pretzel. Stayed away from the movie theatre popcorn. I also had about 10 of her Reese's Pieces. No photo there either.

Late dinner was canned minnestrone soup and about a cup and a half of pineapple.

Drank about half as much water as I would like, but that did include a large bottled water at the movie, which is a good habit I am working on when I attend movies.

So how do you think I did? Click a star!

Did you know you can enjoy a movie without unhealthy snacks? Hard the first time but you quickly adapt.

I agree with Andrew.

We generally avoid the snack counter at the movies - but to be honest, yesterday we took the kids to see "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" and broke down, sharing a bag of popcorn amongst the four of us. Nothing quite like movie-style popcorn…

I don't think I should have taken so much crap for what I had - half a soft pretzel and a few Reese's Pieces with a bottle of water is pretty darn good if you ask me! I'm pretty good at staying away from the movie theatre popcorn once I started researching how many calories they can have.

How did you like the movie? My kids read the book and gave the book a 10 and the movie a 5.

LOL! Probably better than I did at my weekend movie escapade. We really enjoyed the movie. Haven't read the books, but my kids are interested now.

The fruit looks delicious. And good job avoiding the movie popcorn. We went to see Valentine's Day and skipped the popcorn. Tough, because it smelled so good, but I reminded myself we were saving like $90 by not getting any, and that helped, too. :)

Calories and cash - makes sense to avoid!

I need to learn how to stay away from food at the movie theatre. I thought about sneaking in a bottle of water when I went today but it didn't work out logistically.

It's crazy how much they charge for bottled water so I can understand wanting to smuggle one in. Hard to do though!

I'm a fan of the fruit I do have to say because I eat plenty of them too - only I separate them throughout the day. I liked that you removed yourself for the most part away from the movie theater temptations. It is so hard to give that stuff up — especially when my wife can get an blue raspberry Icee and popcorn or candy and not be affected while I have my cup of water :) I'm content with that because it's the decision that I made — I chose this lifestyle of better health. It's hard but it's possible. Oh yeah — I love Reeses Pieces…peanut butter in a crunchy shell. delicious

Thanks Seth - I've never been a huge fan of Reese's Pieces myself, although of course I could eat them just like anything else. When you talk peanut and butter and chocolate to me you are talking Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, those can be a downfall for me for sure.
