Hello all,

I had started loosing weight on my own since mid march. I was down 20lbs simply by cutting out all fried food, fast food, soda, and sugars. Basically no junk food of any kind. Once I hit the 20lb mark, I decided I felt a lot better and I supposed a little extra help in losing more wouldn't hurt, so I joined Slimgenics. I paid about $660 dollars for 36 weeks counseling and 10 boxes of "snacks". After the first 3days, I had lost 3.5 lbs. I went in two days later and lost another 2. I went in 2 days after and had gained 1lb. I go in tomorrow, and I have been following the plan to a tee, so I hope I'm down again!!! I do feel like the snacks etc have a lot of the stuff I had cut out like sugar and sodium. I didn't think to check labels when I started, until I saw these posts. I feel like my next order will involve less caloric and sugary "snacks" thanks for the tips all!!!!! Good luck!

I going in this morning for my consultation. I want to lose 30 lbs that has crept up on me in the last couple years (including having my third baby one year ago). I am planning on not buying the herbs, and generally hope I can stay away from any drugs they offer me- I have vitmins that I take already. I will check out the drinks and snack bars as you all suggested. Hope that the sticker shock doesn't scare me away, I really need a "prescriptive plan" because just cutting back . . . isn't cutting it. Wish me luck!

I've been reading everyone's postings, and I thought I would chime in with a couple of thoughts.

One thing I found as I was losing weight is that I sometimes had as much trouble with my head as with my weight. I'd start feeling bad or guilty if I didn't stick to the plan 100 percent, or I'd even feel bad if I was sticking to the plan and still not losing weight. Even now, I have those feelings at times.

I urge you all to accept the fact that you may have those feelings, but to keep your goal in mind. Many of us deal with emotions that play into our eating habits. Rather than feeling bad about them, we should recognize them for what they are and deal with them. For me, that often meant resisting the urge to wallow in bad feelings or guilt, and instead forcing myself to go into the center for extra help when I needed it.

One other thing: I think most people hit plateaus during weight loss, even if they follow the plan carefully. This is your system's attempt to establish equillibrium. The counselors are trained in suggesting techniques (plateau breakers, changes in food) to help you start losing again. Don't let a plateau break your spirit. You can get past it. I used to tell the counselors: "Ok, I'm following the plan and I'm not losing weight. Now it's your problem!" They laughed, and then they went to work. We got past the plateau every time!

Hi Kit,
Thanks for asking. I have gotten rid of the headaches. I am only taking 1/2 of the herbs, and that seems to have done the trick. My weight loss is very slow. I hope that it speeds up soon. I work out 4 - 6 days a week, so I was sure this was what I needed to get rid of the pounds. Maybe tomorrow I will be happy with my results. I am feeling much better though and that makes a world of difference. Have a great week.

Checking in at the end of week one. Wow, impressive results Chuck!! I almost posted an update on Thursday, and am I ever glad I waited. I was feeling miserably full, uncomfortable, and didn't see how I could see it through. They started me on a modified plan 4 (basically one less snack), and said I could sub 1 protein for the egg at breakfast. I'd noticed 1 egg is only half a protein, but the gal who started me said to sub a full protein. Thankfully on Thursday my check in was with the manager and she said it was too much.

Man alive, it's amazing what one extra half a protein can do! I feel so much better now that I cut it down. I'm down 4 lbs from the beginning of the week, and almost felt sad until they pointed out that the medical plans have a lower predicted weekly weight loss of 2 to 3 pounds, and my week isn't technically up until Monday. Whew! Of course, just as I figure all that out they decide they want to drop me to plan 2. I'm not going to go there without doctor approval, so we'll see.

I love to cook and have come up with some great recipes. Thankfully this food is pretty similar to what I've been eating, and I don't normally cook with fat or salt. I made a twice baked potato last night. It was so good. I just took the half potato, my 6 oz. of Greek yogurt, a lot of garlic powder and pepper, mushed it up, added my cut up broccoli, and re-baked it for 5 minutes. When it came out I added my fat serving for the day My kids ended up wanting the same thing for dinner. Now that's saying something!

I hope everyone's doing well!

Hi Everyone,
I have been reading some of your posts for the last few weeks and finally decided to respond as well.

I have lost 20 on slimgenics, and my huband is trying to follow along but getting bored with the limitations I think. I keep telling him to hang in there with me until maintenance. Not sure if he will or not.

I got horrid headaches as well, and after all the testing of combinations, I do not take the herbs or the carb blockers at all. I take my own vitamins, including Potassium instead of the MLS....as per my doctor, and I use my own bars that are much lower in sugar and carbs than their bars and I am doing just fine now. I do occasioanlly drink a thermoboost just because I paid for them, however I wouldn't say it gives me anymore energy than if I don't.

The snacks are way cheaper online, but the protein bars (which are awesome) I get at King Sooper of all places...usually on sale!

Gregg-- Thanks for keeping us posted! Looking forward to hearing how your next phase goes! Great suggestions... there has been a bit of a turnover at the facility since I moved, so I have been kind of "going it alone" for awhile, plus I let quite a bit of time pass in the meantime. So I feel very disconnected from the distance. And to be honest, I have changed things up a bit on my own over that time and was curious as to what I should be doing. haha!

Kit,
I am a third grade teacher in Jeffco. WOW I can't believe you lost 25 pounds on your own and you still are doing the program. I lost 80 pounds 4 years ago, and have kept all but 20 off. My clothes were getting tight, and I had given all my fat clothes away, so it was time to finish. I need to lose about 50 pounds now. I am really struggling, I don't remember it being so hard before. I think that I just need to get my mind around it. Maybe if I can feel better that will help. I did not take the Herbal Slim and I felt better. Maybe I will try to drop the Carb Blocker tomorrow and add the Herbal Slim in and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion.

I am so embarassed to do this whole thing that I have not told anyone, with the exception of my husband. I can't stand the thought that maybe I spent all of this money and I might fail. It helps to hear from people who have gone to the Dr. with the meds. I was too chicken.

I am glad I found this blog. I have never really done anything like this, so I am feeling encouraged already.

Have a great day tomorrow. Not many days left.

Hi Sonja,

What grade and district do you teach in? I'm a fifth grade teacher in Adams 12. I know what you mean about the need to feel good in order to be a good teacher. Like Gregg, I took everything to my doctor. She told me not to take the carb blocker because the vitamin A in that is a retynol based vitamin A, and puts my total vitamin A over the upper limit for adults. If you're taking that, the vitaslim, drinking two thermoboost, and taking the alphaslim carb blocker maybe that's why you're getting the headaches?

Good luck on finding whatever it is that's causing them. I dislike headaches almost more than anything!!

Now that I'm finally starting tomorrow, I went out and bought my food scale and groceries for the week. I also went through all the snacks I purchased in volume. Kind of wish I'd waited as so many of the bars have high fructose corn syrup as the first ingredient. I may sell them to a coworker who's also doing the program. I really try to stay away from that stuff. Still, I am excited for the support. As of this morning I am down a total of 25 pounds on my own, which tells me I really am committed to this! I'm glad I found John's board, and read your posts about your progress Gregg, it's definitely helped keep me on track and upbeat!

Sonja, I took all the supplements to my doctor and pharmacist. They said that the herbs did not appear to contain anything with proven medicinal value. My doctor left it up to me as to whether I wanted to take them. I discontinued them because of the cost. I still lost weight steadily.

Thanks Gregg for your thoughts. I am getting enough water, that is the easiest part for me, as I have always been a water drinker. I would rather have just water than the thermo boosts.

Yesterday I did what you said, I did not take the EFAs first thing in the morning, but took the Herbal Slims and Carb Blocker. I got a headache, and the general bad feeling. Then at lunch I took only the EFAs and Carb Blocker. As the afternoon went on, the headache went away. I think that it is the Herbal Slims. I am going to not take them today, and see what happens. Then when I go in tomorrow, I will talk to the staff about the Herbal Slims. I hope that it won't slow down my weight loss.

Thanks for your help. I was very discouraged after spending all this money, and I just felt awful. I am a teacher, so I need to feel good. My students deserve a nice teacher. I lost 7.75 pounds in my first 10 days, so I hope that I can get the rest off. It is a very scary place to be.

Just reading about the successes of others has been a good thing for me. I hope that everyone has a great day.

Maria, I'm starting maintenance on Wednesday. I will share with you what I learn. Also, have you thought about calling your Colorado facility for a little tutoring? It seems to me that, if you paid for the program and left before you finished your weeks, they might be willing to help. Obviously, they have a stake in your success.

Sonja, I haven't suffred from any headaches, so it's hard to say. Are you getting all your water in? If not, perhaps that might help. Another approach might be to omit one supplement at a time and see if it alleviates the headaches. This dietary change is significant for most of us, and I suppose adjustment can vary alot from person to person.

Kit, I have used the thermoboost and snacks throughout, and switched to off-the-shelf vitamins and fish oil after the introductory pack. I dropped the other items because of the cost. My doctor and pharmacist said they weren't necessary. I lost weight consistently without them.

Hi All,
Wow, the progress shared here is so inspiring. I finally, mostly, have things ironed out between my doctor and slimgenics. I also have a much better understanding about why this diet isn't the best for anyone with a renal (kidney) condition. Slimgenics absolutely refused to refund my start up money, and never did disclose all the ingredients to my doctor. Even so, my doctor and I are going to go forward with the plan minus things she said absolutely no to (like the Morton's lite salt, all sugar substitutes, and most of the supplements.) I don't know how well it will work without those, but I'm hopeful all the same. I'm still losing on my own, and I officially start on Monday. I bought thermoboost and snacks in bulk yesterday (easy given the limitations), and I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I've noticed that some of the staff genuinely care, and others who were part of my enrollment are all about the sales. I figure I know who to try and talk to and who to avoid, and that I can find support outside slimgenics as well. Thanks for asking, and for your encouragement RedHead, Katie, and Gregg.

Hi All,
I just found this by accident. I started Slimgenics 11 days ago. I have had a terrible headache, and just don't feel like myself. I am wondering if it is the supplements, or something else. My counselors have said that they think it is a detox. I am not sure, I have done other detoxes and not felt this way. Any ideas.

Hi folks-- I joined slimgenics when I lived in Colorado, but have since been transferred for work to Missouri (no slimgenics)... I lost about 20 lbs on the first phase but really didn't know how to move into the maintenance phase and haven't been successful so far and trying to maintain. Do any of you have any insight on how to move into and "maintain" once you are around your goal weight? From my understanding, the sg counselors explained that foods like dairy and add'l starches and re-introduced but i don't know how to go about this correctly. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! By the way, keep up the great work everybody!

Hey Redhed, Katie, and Chuck! Nice hearing from you guys. Redhed, not too bad given that you're returning from vacation. You can lose that little gain pretty fast. Katie, doing awesome! Keep up the good work. Chuck, sounds like your situation is very close to what mine was. Good start. Keep at it.

Hi Folks! I pulled the trigger with Slimgenics 3 weeks ago and am down from 289.75 to 277 (12.75 pounds). My goal is 189, like Gregg I want to make it an even 100 loss. The program is working well for me, no issues with being hungry. Yes, it's expensive, if I reach my goal it'll end up costing $16.86 per pound lost. That's some pricy fat! I've purchased all my snacks in bulk, finished some of the starter pack of supplements and am buying only the ThermoBoost from now on. Thanks to this blog and others I found by searching, it's much cheaper to buy at Costco or just about anywhere else! Looks like this is another good source of motivation, I'll check back in later!
