Hi John,

I'm in the same boat. I lost 100lbs and am trying for another 100lbs but it's been difficult.

Provided I stick to regular exercise, I do well - but work keeps me very busy and as I sit all day... well, you know the rest.

You made a great comment - you started walking. When I lost my first 100lbs all I did was walk and ride my stationary cycle. I didn't hit the gym -- too embarassing to "work out" with all those super buffed guys/gals there.

My ideal weight should be around the 200lb mark but I'm struggling with diet and exercise.

I try and take my son out daily, but this year allergies have played havoc with him and he's literally shut inside all day otherwise he gets eye infections and sinus problems.

We've tried stuff at home, like hide 'n seek and we play bowling and tennis on the Nintendo Wii (yes, I know you can't expect to loose a lot - but any activity is good) and do what I can to work around the house

I wish you the best of luck!

Regards,

Happy belated birthday! What a good time to start new healthy habits. How nice to have a walking path nearby! Keep making healthy choices.

Thanks! And I've heard rumors we may actually have a small workout facility and locker room as well, although I have not yet confirmed that.

Good for you! I think packing lunch is key, even if it's steak and cake it's likely healthier than whatever you can grab and eat in an hour. My last job had no cafeteria, and it was a 10 minute drive to get anywhere to buy some, and I rarely had my car with me, so I just got into the habit of bringing. The dishes aren't that bad to deal with, just rinse them so they're not nasty and crusty, and put in a bag to take home. I even had this cutey padded insulated lunch box (had to last the bike ride) If I didn't have much work to do, I'd go for a walk, but usually I'd just finish as quickly as I could so I could leave and go to gym. I'm glad you're making these incremental changes, that's the way to go, and it was making me cringe to see you spinning in circles and not progressing.

Well I'm not out of the spin cycle yet but I'm trying!

John:
Good for you! I also do the packed lunch and lunchtime walk each day. I have to drive about five miles to a park, so I keep my lunch simple - a sandwich and some fruit which I eat on the way. At the park I walk about two miles in 40 minutes. It has really made a difference so far.

As for the sweating, I am right there with you. I change into shorts and a t-shirt before lunch. I bring a fresh pair of underwear for when I change back into work clothes. Not ideal, but workable. Keep it up.

Sounds like you have developed a good habit there!

Happy belated, John! What a terrific way to celebrate--by doing something GOOD for you!

(Let me know if you need any help with that leftover cake. *G*)

Thanks Cammy - the cake is gone now but it did take a couple of days to disappear and I wasn't the only culprit, so that's good!

Good on you for trying something different. Probably just as important as taking small steps.

Good Luck to you.

Good for you, John! You're absolutely right: It's a lot of small steps that add up to a lot of progress. I've found that taking big steps is more difficult, and though you might get further at first, you're more likely to stop, and the "small steppers" will blow past you. Go buy those shoes! And Happy Birthday :)

Thanks Kimberly!
