Have mercy on you buddy! I found a recipe on her site for Monkey Bread - Stay Away!!!! It was so good but I hope not to make it again. Seriously I could eat the whole thing myself. As soon as I made it I started giving it away. :)

I don't remember seeing that one and now you've made me curious!

A few months ago, I had a great moment. I had some cake and was staring at the left overs. Normally the rest of the cake would have gone in the fridge and would certainly been devoured. My head was spinning. I didn't know what to do. Out of desperation and, perhaps in a stroke of genius, I tossed an entire cake into a sink full of dish water.

Splash! Glug glug glug! Ewww!

I watched the evil thing disintegrate. It was awesome! What a rush! I felt lighter, leaner, stronger. I was in control! Not the cake.

I know it's terribly wasteful and I know it is disrespectful to those less fortunate but that cake had to die.

Since then, I've destroyed half a huge starbuck's gingerbread cookie by throwing it into my frappuchino (two birds, one stone), I poured dish soap all over some baked mac & cheese and emptied a dust pan's contents onto the last slice of pizza in the box. That was back in April. Out of guilt, I moved on to new tactics. I started giving food away at work. It's amazing what people eat if you put it out on the counter in a large plate in the coffee/break room.

It's been a month now and I started seeing chocolate cake as evil. I have the superpower to end that cake's chocolaty rule! Gingerbread and chocolate cake have not recently found their way home or into my oven. The Dark Lord's spoils must not come into my temple.

lol, great story thanks for sharing. I've occasionally mustered up the strength to throw something away but that is certainly a big weakness of mine as I hate to waste anything.

Another thought for the future... if you like the recipe, is there anyway to modify it to make small, single serving portions or just a few portions? That way, instead of making an entire pie, you could make just enough to have a treat and no leftovers to struggle with.

Yes, these could easily be made into little tarts. The other advantage of that is that it would be easier to calculate the damage - I'll be honest, I have not done a calprie calculator on the pie, it might not be as bad as I think - but single sized individual portions could be a good way to go either way.

Your wife's bunco group is weird. The groups I have been part of would never have left that tasty of a dessert sitting in the fridge! ;-)

I suspected they were weird even before this. :-) The nurses at my wife's work gobbled it up quickly so it didn't go to waste, nor in my belly (or at least most of it didn't).

Most of the changes a person needs to make to get to a healthier weight aren't easy or comfortable. However, if you're not willing to make some changes to improve your life, whether related to weight or anything else, then you're just spinning your wheels and playing games, and not only will this not help you lose weight, it'll likely keep you gaining. I think we're programmed to like sweet things, try to learn to love fruit or something. Sorry to be harsh, but nobody said it was easy, but at some point you have to walk the walk.

I'm with you there, and eventually I'm hoping to run that walk!

Personally, I think you're asking for trouble to even make the healthy version of those things. If I want a piece of pie (and I don't, since I don't like it), or chocolate cake, which I do like, I'd get a single serving, and enjoy the hell out of it, and not think about it anymore. I'll eat it if it's in the fridge. You're better off adapting your taste buds and whatever else to think of that stuff as an occasional treat, in other words, lose the sweet tooth.

Easier said than done! But I do agree - having a sweet tooth is a problem and it would be good to get rid of it, that's for sure.

Oh my - that sounds delicious! I looooove pie... every kind of pie. It's generally considered my nemesis.

Have you heard of PB2? It's powdered peanut butter (they press the oil out of it, then you add water to make it creamy). It's great for recipes and has more than 85% fewer calories. Might be a great substitute in this pie!

Here's a link to the company that makes PB2: http://www.bellplantation.com

I'm not big on subs like that, but perhaps someone will find it interesting, thanks for sharing.

Then I suggest you stay away from these!

My advice... make something like this on a "free" day and then enjoy to the hilt. And then if there happens to be leftover pie, either give it to someone (Our solution is generally to send this kind of leftover with hubby to work. It disappears there and that's that.) or take the hard solution

The hard solution, especially when you went to the work of making the pie yourself, is simply to pitch it in the garbage. And walk away free of the calories.

I had a boss that insisted on getting me the gooiest, richest chocolate cake he could find on my birthday. This, in spite of the fact that I am actually not that big on cake. I'd eat a good slice at work, then he'd foist whatever hadn't gotten eaten on me to take home. And I did, but I chunked it in the garbage before I ever walked indoors.

I'm bringing that habit back somewhat... on my free days, sometimes I do bring junk home. I don't even always want to eat it all. Well, when I'm full, I just toss what's left so it doesn't sit around tempting me.

Good advice Cynthia, thank you.

Great post! For me my big temptation is usually popcorn. I won't buy a box of my favorite anymore as I will blow through all three bags in one sitting.

Luckily Walgreens has the single serving size for solitary sale!

-1/2 girl

Buying single serving sizes (as long as they are realistic) is a great way to go for any tempting food item.

I'm a big fan of Ree's site, but I don't visit the recipe section at all! That would just be wrong!

That's probably for the best, but darn she does have some great, and mostly simple, recipes. Still, never mind what I say - STAY AWAY!

This pie has been my nemesis all week too! I saw it PW's site and I just had to make it. THe funny thing is I started remaking it into other pies too. You can add pumpkin instead of peanut butter and graham crackers instead of oreos and it's a pumpkin cream cheese pie. Yummy! I have two pieces this week, and I'm hoping the kid will finish the damn pie so I don't have to be tempted by it anymore.

Ooh, I never thought of pumpkin. I know my wife would like that one.
