Catching Up on a Few Things Including DVT

June 6, 2009 · 9 comments

A few days after I wrote my post questioning whether I could have Deep Vein Thrombosis I went ahead and scheduled a doctor’s appointment since my sore and swollen calf had not been getting any better. As this week progresses and it started to feel a little better I thought about canceling the appointment but I decided not too - even though it was not as sore as it had been there is no question that it was still getting swollen every day and that something was not right. Best to have it checked out.

Yesterday I had the appointment with my doctor and after getting everything checked out she scheduled me for an ultrasound later in the day, in order to officially rule out DVT as a possibility. According to her there were a couple of possibilities for what was causing my swollen calf - DVT or swelling in the injured knee that was constricting the vein in some manner. So the ultrasound would be used to eliminate DVT as a problem.

The only ultrasounds I’ve seen where on my wife’s pregnant belly but this was pretty much the same - get lubed up with some warm gell and have a transducer run up and down the leg. It was interesting when she would squeeze my calf you could hear these noises coming from the machine which I guess was bloodflow, not a baby.

The technician who did the ultrasound told me she didn’t see any clots and my doctor later confirmed it. Prescription? Ice, elevation and support socks or Ace bandage. I feel good to know it isn’t DVT, going on blood thinners and worrying about the clot breaking free did not sound like something I wanted to go through. So, thanks for everyone who pushed me to get it checked out - I’m good to go.

On another note, I was contacted by a casting agency looking to cast for a new show. I thought it could be interesting for some of my readers. Here is how they describe it:

“LOVE HANDLES”

Doron Ofir Casting in association with 495 Productions is currently casting overweight couples who are at least the age of 18 and appear younger than 35 to compete in the dramatic new weight-loss and relationship competition series.

Think you both have what it takes to get healthy and re-ignite the romance in your relationship? Can you work together and as a team and strengthen not only your body but your relationship too?

One couple will go home with the grand prize, starting their new, healthier life.

We want to hear from you!

Please go to www.lovehandlescasting.com and submit your application today!!

Let me know by leaving a comment here if you apply and of course if you make the show.

Finally, don’t forget about my June Weight Loss Blog Contest with a top prize of $250 in pure cash. So far there have been only 14 entries so your odds of winning one of seven prizes (2nd and 3rd is cash money too!) is pretty good. Read the rules for how to maximize your entries. Good Health!

I’m glad DVT has been ruled out! Now I just hope you get better soon! I will write about one of your product reviews this coming week…

Hi John,

Glad to hear your tests came back negative. You are a good role model - many of us do not follow-up with our health concerns by visiting the doctor. I know someone who put off visiting the doctor and she is no longer with us.

I posted about your contest again. This time I provided a link to one of your product reviews. Few people read my blog but I hope it helps you.

Cheers and good luck.

Hi John,

I heard a story from my friend Father Patrick who does volunteer work with an organ donation group. A lady agreed to donate a kidney to a relative. During the screening they found some kind of rare cancer. They managed remove the cancer and she is alive today because of her generosity. We don’t know what happened to the intended recipient but trust all is well.

My points are - be nice to people. And, visit the doctor every now and then.

cheers and good luck

Sounds like good advice to me, Mike!

So glad you went to the doctor and got good results.

Wow, that casting call comes just a little too late for us. My husband lost over 100 lbs in one year and I’m down 50. So we’ve already made all of those healthy changes and have the results. :-)

That beats getting on a show any day, congrats!

Hello John,

First up, glad it wasn’t DVT, that’s scary stuff.

Just found your blog after starting my own fat-loss blog a couple of days ago. Wow your graph looks a lot like my history! Up,down,up,down.

I read your 5 things you have learnt since gaining the weight back, the compliments one is definitely a big one. It then leads to this thought “well people are attracted to me, lets party!”

Just wanted to let you know, you’ve got someone here with you, that is also striving for the same goals. And yes, its all about willpower :)

Good luck on your journey!

So glad it was nothing serious!

Don’t think the casting call will work for me and hubby… we are way over the age thing, LOL!

When are you gonna get back on track with your exercise and eating right? Flip that switch bro, flip it.

I know, I know. I need some WD40 to loosen that switch up.
