That's a brilliant interview. So many similarities to my own life in many respects. Thanks for the shout out too! :)

I think that given that he was at 400 pounds, it was more important to reduce the weight, and cardio is the best way to do that. It is some achievement.

Very cool interview. The one thing that bothers me is his view on resistance/weight training and cardio. To lose fat and still have some semblance of a good figure, you should definitely add resistance training and short burst workouts to your routine. The way I look at it is do I want to look like a marathon runner or like a sprinter.

I suppose he is in the marathoner category and that's why he feels the way he does. But i want to be able to have some muscle when I take my shirt off and not some caved in chest and no definition or veins in my arms.

I don't disagree in the long term, but I think there is nothing wrong with focusing on one area first if that is what works for you. I would be very happy to look like a marathoner right now, trust me. But I wouldn't want to stay that skinny, but rather bulk up with muscle rather than fat. But I've got to get rid of the fat first. I know there are many benefits to incorporate strength training as part of a fat loss program, I'm just saying that if a guy wants to focus on cardio to lose hundreds of pounds then I say more power to him!

A big thumbs up for this post John. A great read and it's always good to hear when that switch went off in someone's head that told them this was not working and they needed to change. A trip to a doctor's scale can speak volumes.

Thanks Tom, glad you liked it. I'm hoping to make this a regular series.

Love the behind the scenes of the bloggers and adore matts blog.

and appreciate tremendously that he shouted out to miz.

(and entirely join him on #1 unless you count 60.00 ever as money in which case I dont. :))

The problem with trying to make money is that it can distract you from the task at hand, which for me should be losing weight. Trying to find an effective balance...
