Motivated by Music

Well so much for NaBloPoMo! My best intentions of posting every day this month went up in flames on Wednesday, then I had a decided lack of motivation yesterday after knowing that I won’t be hitting what I had hoped was a simple goal - writing every day this month. I also have not run every day this week like I had set out to. After doing cardio on Monday and Tuesday I took Wednesday off (although I did do a 4 mile walk around the lake with my wife) and then for the same reason that I didn’t write yesterday I also didn’t exercise.

But here it is Friday and I just knocked out a couple of miles on the treadmill and I had a whey protein shake for dinner. What got me motivated after a couple of days off from exercising?

Music.

I received a couple of packages today. The first was a replacement battery for an APC UPS that was croaking (is there anything more irritating than the beeping from a dying UPS?). Looking forward to getting that thing fixed. The second package was a care package from my friends at Sansa, who sent me a couple of cool new music players to try out.

One of the devices comes preloaded with workout music - the Sansa slotMusic bundle with the Don’t Quit card. I decided that it would be a pretty good excuse to hit the treadmill with my new music, and half an hour later I was covered in sweat and totally tired.

All thanks to some new music.

I’ll post a full review of the music player later, but for now I’ll say it’s a pretty cool little player with a lot of possibilities. It got me to workout tonight - that’s something!

John, GOOD FOR YOU! Getting back into a routine, even after a small break, is half the battle. It is so easy to say “I’ll worry about it tomorrow” (Scarlett O’Hara has a running commentary in my head) but you broke the cycle and in such a positive way! Consistent workout vibes coming your way!

You seem to get free stuff to review all the time. Do they contact you or are you going after them?

Congrats on not letting that day off turn into a longer streak of non exercise. That has been a problem for me in the past.

My answer was so long I made it into a post: 4 Tips For Getting PR People To Send You Free Stuff

As they say: “Good music ain’t bad…” :)
Personally, I can’t imagine a good workout without music.

I’m glad to hear you’re still on track with the cardio.

My music is my partner with my workouts. It keeps my mind active and my focus on the music not the workout. Don’t bust out laughing at me but I will let you in on a secret John. Shhhhh don’t tell nobody. I have the entire rocky album on my player when I am on the treadmill believe it or not. lol That is like my theme music dude! :o )

Whatever it takes! I can’t think of who sang the original Rocky theme. I know “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor was for a later one…

There are a lot of things I couldn’t do without music. :) It’s my life-force.

I can probably do weights without music - but definitely not cardio. Sansa makes some good reasonably priced mp3 players.

Gotta have the music!

I posted up my review for the Don’t Quit Fitness Bundle from Sansa this week. It will be interesting to see if you have the same experience I had.

Good on you John. I rarely go running or to the gym without my Ipod. ;)
