John is Fit - Now with Google Sitelinks!

August 31, 2008 · 9 comments

The last couple of weeks have been extremely busy with coaching two soccer teams and what seems to have been an unusually high numbers of parties. I’ve been eating until sick and not exercising. It hasn’t been pretty. I’m going to kick start things (yet again) on Monday with a new plan that I believe is going to make a real difference for me. In the meanwhile, I’m going to crank out a few posts I’ve been meaning to write about.

John is Fit Sitelinks

I’m not sure when it happened but Google finally looked down on this humble blog and setup some sitelinks for me. See the picture to the left, or see it live in the search results for john is fit.

Now the benefits of having sitelinks are pretty minimal for a blog like mine. Do a search for apple to see how they might be more useful, for example.

That doesn’t mean I’m not going to try to optimize them, however. According to Google these links are created automatically but they have an interface in their webmaster tools that allows you to block certain links from showing. For example, I submitted a block on the Chow Chow Corgie Puppy sitelink because it doesn’t fit with the theme of my blog (not to mention we now think she is a Shiba Inu!). The link still shows but I suspect it will be off soon.

Part of the reason why I blog is that I am fascinated with new things like this. It’s fun, although not rewarding in any tangible way, to see this sort of “recognition.”

Do a search for your blog or any search result where you are #1 - do you have Google sitelinks?

How cool!

You know scale junkie doesn’t come up with site links but then again I just moved my blog directly to the domain. Healthy You Challenge, a subdomain comes up with site links….I have no idea how they figure out what to site link.

Incidentally, did you know they offer DNA testing for your dog so you can learn their breeds? Google Orvis dog dna I’m considering doing it for my two simply because everyone asks what they are and they seem to consider the reply of “why they are DOGS of course” a smartarse answer. :-)

I don’t have them - how do you get an audience before the wizard? September 2, 2008 at 9:32 pm

No site links yet…..:(

But I finally ranked#1 for a keyword I was targeting (in anyway)

John can you guess what it was?

That’s pretty cool! Google considers your blog an authority on the subject!

No site links for me. I’m on… I wonder if sites get indexed with site links in google. If so, I can dream of getting sitelinks some day.

I was excited when I noticed google gave my site some sitelinks a few months ago. It shows they respect ya and see you as a semi authority site. Its definitely a good thing.

Congratulations on getting site links. My blog is way too new to probably be considered for site links. Maybe one day…

Definitely good news to those people searching for your site it will be easier for them to browse to your site.
This can be a sign that google is treating you as a good and quality website in your niche.

John, a huge well done on the achievement - Google obviously loves you! Getting those sitelinks is always hard, especially when its not exactly obvious WHY people get them! Keep up the good work and interesting posts :)
