I still would use caution in taking whey if you do not workout and you want to lose weight. Whey is a dairy product. It is used to produce ricotta cheese. In fact, ricotta cheese is the best source for consuming whey.
If the calorie content is really low in the brand you use, I would question how much whey is actually in it. If you are looking for something that will help build muscle as well as help lose weight plus is low in calories, you might consider giving creatine a try.

Yes Miz, I agree with you too. Whey protein shakes have been marketed by big companies for so long as just weight gainers...and the ones with low calories, etc. get bunched in with them all. Just like anything else though, read that label!

I've been consistent in having a protein smoothie within one hour after my morning workout-- every day. I believe it has helped me in my weight loss and conditioning effort (I've lost 153 pounds over the past 457 days). It's the 1st of 6 meals I have each day. The remaining 5 are regular food.

Yeah I would be making sure you are doing some kind of workout, either cardio or muscle building while you are using the whey protein drinks.

I sometimes use it as a quick snack to fill me up but I am generally only using it before and after my gym sessions.

A whey protein shake is a great way to get a high protein meal for little cost. While a container of whey may seem costly, if you consider how many drinks it provides, compared to any other protein meal, it is pretty darn cheap. I drink two shakes every day. However, it can still be a high caloric drink. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't doing a good daily work out.

I'd be a bit dubious about replacing a meal with a protein shake. I normally have one with one of my meals.

I'm looking to incorporate whey protein shakes back into my diet along with other "ABS DIET POWER" foods from Men's health. I lost 10 pounds last fall without doing any working out at all in 1 month. Now I'm training for a 5k and I'm going to put the nutrition component back in as well.
