I was recently contacted by Dr. Kalvin C. Chinyere ( aka Dr. Kal) to review his Don’t Go Broke Weight Loss Plan eBook.
Dr. Kal has been writing on his blog since November of last year, and while I have visited his site a few times during that period I had neglected to add him to my blogroll, an oversight which I have now corrected.
Having seen a very inspirational video of his story on CNN’s Fit Nation, I knew he was legit and had the success to back up the authoring of a weight loss program, so I was happy to take a look at his plan.
What I found was refreshingly open, honest and straightforward. As he says in the introduction, this is “not a revolution in weight loss,” but “a different way of looking at things”:
The Don’t Go Broke Diet is just a different way of looking at things. I used my knowledge as a physician to study weight loss, weight loss literature, and the cost of weight loss. I studied what worked for me and numerous other successful long-term losers. I also studied what did not work for most people including myself. I used all the knowledge I gathered to create The Don’t Go Broke Weight Loss Program.
The “what worked for me” is especially important, because Dr. Kal is a guy who has lost 140 pounds and kept it off. That is impressive. In addition to his blog and the video linked to above you can hear more about his fascinating story on the July 9th episode of the internet radio show Becoming Thin Within.
Dr. Kal’s program is an amalgamation of many of the things I have written about or seen written before. Again, there is nothing magical here. But what I really liked about the program was how Dr. Kal stressed the important of small, incremental change. This has been a mantra of mine as well, although the results are not yet the same! This is not a fad diet, this is just about how to manage the hard work of losing weight and not going broke doing it.
The program is a series of 6 eBook PDF files including a Primer, a Nutrition Plan, an Activity Plan, a Guide to Grocery Shopping, a Guide to Healthy Foods and a Recipe Book. There are also 3 interesting free reports: Exercise Equipment That You Should Not Purchase, “Healthy” Foods That Are Not Really Healthy, and Kitchen Essentials to Prepare Healthy & Inexpensive Dishes.
I am giving Dr. Kal’s Don’t Go Broke Weight Loss Plan the Thumbs Up!
Now, here is my call to action. The eBook costs $19.97. Go buy it. But, before you do, think about this coming week and where you were planning to already spend that $20 on food or drink, and cut that out for one week. For me that means packing a lunch twice instead of eating out at lunch, which I should probably be doing anyway! So if you follow my advice not only will you have some good reading from someone who has “been there, done that” but you are also well on your way to making the incremental change he calls for in his program.
Good luck on your weight loss journey!
