Weekly Update - 7/6/2008

July 6, 2008 · 15 comments

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 279
  • Today's weight: 277
  • Week weight loss: 2 lbs
  • Total weight lost: 18 lbs

I should have known better than to think I'd be able to have a perfect week this week, especially with parties to attend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I probably better stick with one day at a time from here on in. My goal for this week is simple - another week with losing any amount of weight - I haven't had two consecutive weeks of weight loss since January. It's a real bummer to see that my total weight loss is only 18 pounds when I had been at 32 pounds lost. Still, I remain hopeful that writing about my journey is helping me to stick with it.

Things I did well this week:

  • Completed week one of the one hundred pushups challenge.
  • Lifted more weight than I have since February.
  • Had a couple of pretty close to perfect days.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • Not as much cardio and strength training as I would like.
  • Overate at three parties.
  • Too much binge eating.
  • Not enough water.

This week should be a very easy week to do really well - no travel, no parties, no nothing. While I am shooting to lose anything I will be pretty disappointed if I don't lose at least a couple of pounds - unless I don't put the effort in, then I'll be disappointed with the effort, not the results.

I think a day at a time is a good goal.

Congrats on the 2 pounds!

I know I said it before but a perfect week would be too much pressure for this woman.

here's to a fab week for you and, since SUCCESS BEGETS SUCCESS :) , a continued one next as well.

Miz.

"SUCCESS BEGETS SUCCESS" - whew, isn't that true. It reminds me of a quote I am too tired to look up right now, which is something like "I work hard to get this lucky."

You partied and lost 2 pounds? Sounds like a good week. Here's to even better weeks to come.

Well, John, I also lost two pounds, and I DIDN'T even get any partying in!! No fair! ;) Great job though…glad to see things are improving. I applaud you for trying the perfect week…I've maybe had one in my entire life and I hated it…the daily approach seemed to work best for me. Hope all is well and here's to a great week for you!

Thanks Johnny, I appreciate it. So far so good on the week!

You did better than me. I went to Las Vegas and spent time with mom. I think I gained 5 lbs this last week between going out and her good cooking.

Now I gotta start running again to get it off.

Good luck and I think losing 2 lbs is pretty awesome considering. May your next few weeks be even better.

Thanks - I'm hoping so too.

You still lost 2 lbs — CONGRATS on that!

And you stuck to the 100 push up challenge, don't be so hard on yourself.

Perfection is impossible, but progress within realistic earthly limits is + you made progress this week.

Thanks, yeah I probably shouldn't have used the word perfect. :-)

Not a bad start to the week. The 100 pushup challenge sounds pretty tough so well done on that.

Yep, not bad is how I would characterize it too. Every week not bad would be cool!

Congrats on the overall loss.

Glad to see the weekly updates are back around. I'd say a 2 pound loss is pretty perfect.

I read somewhere along my walk today: A reward with no effort is meaningless.

Thanks TB. Great quote!

I like how you've laid this out, showing both the good and not-so-good for the week. What's nice about this, is you can quickly get a feel for what is working, and what needs improvement. On the improvement side, it was a holiday week, so overeating hit many of us (myself included). Perfection in diet and exercise in not something easily attainable (I believe it is probably unattainable). What is attainable is consistency - consistency in improving, working out, eating quality foods, etc. And I see that here. Nice job!

I wish I could party and lose 2 pounds. Haha. Congrats on the loss.

Steve July 9, 2008 at 11:30 pm

Congrats on the 2 pounds lost. Many people would kill (or at least maim) to be able to drop 2 pounds a week.

Just take it in 2 day blocks. Focus on today and tomorrow, don't worry about the previous few weeks of slips. We have all been there.

Keep it up and build on this weeks momentum.

Have you tried using kettlebells for your workouts?
A friend of mine lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks using them.

I have not used any myself but by the sounds of things these things could be great workout tools.

Not too expensive
Don't require too much room
They hit all areas of your body
Apart from strength they improve cardio
You can take them anywhere

Mind I've just got this info from my friend, has anybody else used kettelebells?

Great to see a 2 lb loss after partying… not easy to do. Congrats on the push up challenge, that's fantastic!

Good luck with the two consecutive weeks of weight loss!

Hey John, you're doing just fine. Two pounds lost is great! You don't want to lose too fast, it won't be just fat you lose but water, and muscle.

You might want to check out the "Cheat To Lose" diet and other plans that allow cheat meals. There's science behind them. The occasional splurge keeps your metabolism fast while long term dieting slows it.

Keep up the good work.
