Weekly Update - 5/11/2008

May 11, 2008 · 14 comments

Financing and loans advisor Motley Fool predicts that 10 years from now the fitness industry will be the new El Dorado. As the current society gets more and more obsessed with looking good and staying fit, expect the the number of fitness-related products to keep rising. Regardless of whatever diet and exercise scheme you choose though, the key is still on maintaining the discipline to follow it through. Now let's take a look at my own progress.

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 274
  • Today's weight: 270
  • Week weight loss: 4 lbs
  • Total weight lost: 25 lbs

Feels good to see my weight chart move in the right direction again. Of course the cynic in me says losing 4 pounds in a week is easy when I had gained so much recently and I was sick for half the week, but I'm shutting him out and focusing on the positives.

Things I did well this week:

  • Started some strength training.
  • Not too many eating disasters (which going forward I will be documenting via my Bad Meals posts).
  • Once when I was looking for a snack I selected some sliced cucumbers instead of something bad for me.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • No cardio.
  • Not enough water.
  • Subway

I'll start my week off in Chicago so I will be challenged with all that comes with travel, but I am resolved to get through it and continue to move the weight back down.

Here's to a good week!

John, it's easy to listen to that cynic inside of us. Just remember that there's an optimist inside us all as well. You might have to listen a little more closely, but he's in there!

Great job with that 4 pound loss!

Ignore that snarky voice inside you! You're going great!

Congrats on the 4lb. loss! That's certainly nothing to sneeze at - just take it one step at a time. By the way, your puppy is SO cute!

Congrats! Four pounds down is astounding!

Travel is going to be my biggest competitor for me as well (besides that inner self). So many opportunities to eat poorly (or drink) and less chance to get exercise.

Keep at it, dude!

Hi John - I like your approach of acknowledging what you did well, as well as thinking of how you can improve next time. Sometimes it's easier to get hung on what you did wrong but we all need encouragement, especially from ourselves! (And especially when drained from travelling!)

traveling is tough (but I wrote a recent article on it if you'd like some ideas—nothing novel but might be worth a skim? email me if you want it) but Im jealous of the destination!

love chicago and it is SO HOT where I am :)

Congrats on that 4 pounds! Probably not the best way to get it, but you did. Gives you more incentive to stay on track this week. Good luck!

Wow, awesome week! Congrats on those pounds gone.

Four pounds is four pounds, baby… and losing them is far better than the alternative. I very much like your way of establishing what you did well in a week and what you still need to work on. I find that to be a very healthy way of approaching your journey. That said, despite your inner cynic, you continue to inspire!

congrats on your loss, john. thats fantastic.

Great job with the loss! Keep thinking about how good that feels while you are traveling, it may help you resist temptation. OK, I read about the McD's breakfast, but resisting some of the time is good too.

Congrats on loses some pounds this week, but remember it is not just about the pounds it is about body composition. It is great the you have started some strength training, if you sick with it, you will find the results will motivate you to keep it up!

Thanks, you are absolutely right - those inches matter!
