Weekly Update - 5/4/2008

May 4, 2008 · 6 comments

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 274
  • Today’s weight: 274
  • Week weight loss: 0 lbs
  • Total weight lost: 21 lbs

This is only my second official weekly weigh-in since February, which is a significant problem, both because I have gained weight since then and because I fear I am losing a grip on my program. So I am forcing myself to get back into the weekly reporting habit. This is one of the best things about documenting the journey in public, there is always that constant reminder of where you are at - and right now where I am at is not where I want to be. One of the most disappointing charts for me is my waist line chart - what previously had been a nice step down chart from 53 inches to 49 inches has now crept back up to 51 inches.

Things I did well this week:

  • I brought workout clothes to a business trip in Denver and despite being up late the night before “socializing” I got up early to workout, putting 40 minutes on the treadmill.
  • Put in a 4.1 mile walk/run with the dog.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • Ate and drank too much.
  • No focus on drinking water.
  • No strength training.

I am now a dozen pounds heavier than the lowest weight I have seen on my scale during this journey that started last August. August will be here again before I know it and I want to ensure I get back on track well before then.

I want to thank all of my loyal readers who have stuck around despite my obvious dedication problems. Your dedication to me is helpful; I am working towards turning that into dedication to my program.

It’s all a journey, John. If it was simple, we would’ve done it years ago. :) I don’t think your problem is dedication. You wouldn’t still be here if it was. I think it just takes some of us awhile to figure out what works for the long haul and what doesn’t. I struggled for over a year to find my way, but once I found it, I made steady progress. You will find your way. In fact, I suspect you’re almost there!

I second what Cammy said.

We all have ups and downs in our journey. If you look at my about me page on my site you’ll notice a rather large spike in my weight loss graph over October, November and December last year where I undid a lot of the hard work I’ve done. I managed to get back on track and I’m sure you will too. I think using your blog for accountability is a great idea. It’s one you’ve advocated before if I recall correctly. ;)

John,

I’m right there with you. I’m just getting started with this sort of thing (and don’t have quite as far to go), but this week was very disappointing (and following a very positive week, even more so). I’m reminding myself that I’m in this for the long haul, and from the looks of it, you are too. We’ll get there!

I travel this coming week, so I’ll have a similar challenge. I’m psyching myself up for it!

As Cammy said, it’s a journey and you’ll find your way. As long as you still are here, I’m sure you”ll get back on track. I know you CAN DO it! Now go and get back on track! Focus, focus, focus, and you’ll have a hunky healthy body in no time! What do you want MORE of this coming week?

Get back on it. You need to have a plan. Don’t just live into the day seeing what comes your way. I mean this food wise. Have a plan about what you eat, but don’t make it unbearable. You need to find a balance between living a fun live and losing weight. Here are some things you could do with your diet:
- cut out sugar
- include more vegetables
- no more candy
- no more fast food
just take it one step at a time. Whatever you need at the moment.

This is a long haul journey that never stops. I messed up a lot of progress between October - December of last year. That sucked, but now the damage is gone again and I’m back on track.

Just get back to what you KNOW you need to do. And ASAP! If you must, take it a day at a time. Even a habit at a time. Start by getting all your water in and then take it from there.
