I drink a small can of V8 Low Sodium every (work) day as a mid morning or mid afternoon snack. I can always tell a difference if I miss a day. It gives me more energy, improves my attitude, and just makes me feel better over-all. I do not use it to replace my daily veggies but it is a great way to get some nutrients when I normally wouldn't. Drink enough water with it to flush out some of the sodium.
P.S. I think the taste is absolutely disgusting so I hold my nose and chug! Down the hatch in about 5 seconds!

My mom worked at a hospital & convinced my brother & I to join in a medical research program. We were to eat prescribed meals for 3 months, with a different diet for each month. My initial analysis showed that I got about 2000 calories a day from food, and 1000 a day from drinks (primarily Dews), so they gave me the 3000 calorie a day plan. IIRC, the only drinks allowed on the plan were diet beverages, water, coffee, and tea. I struggled to eat that much food each day!!! I was 5'7" ~250 pounds at the time & around 30 years of age.

If it isn't the hidden sodium content (I know V8 has a lower sodium version), its the hidden sugars. You know, these healthy brightly packaged foods with great commercials..

Give the low sodium version a try, I think even that one is excessive on the sodium but not nearly as bad. I love V8 juice, but sodium + me = bloating!

I guess everyone knows more about V8 than I did - man, you all were right on the sodium - it's LOADED with it. May have to rethink that drink.

The past couple of weeks I've been drinking one or two V8s every day. The sodium was a killer for me. I love the spicy hot V8, but even with the kicked up metabolism booster of the spicy, it wasn't a good mix with my body.

Try V8 Fusion-which is one serving of fruit, one serving of vegetables and loads of vitamins. If you can work it into your calories per day plan, it's a good substitute for days you can't eat a regular breakfast and it makes a good "snack" if you're craving something sweet. The other day on Good Morning America a nutritionist explained that it IS good for you, even though there are sugars, (no added sugar all natural). I haven't checked the sodium content on the bottles I have but I don't think it's any more than say Slim Fast or any "diet" foods you may eat. And it tastes so good- a lot better than regular V8.

Oooh, thank you! I've been meaning to add a couple of these to my shopping list. It might make a nice alternative afternoon snack!

Yeah... I completely agree with the sodium content... if you have issues with it it might get your body to retain water - atleast that's how it is with me. I gotta really keep my sodium below 2300 mg per day or else I have serious edema a swell up like a balloon. I think they have a reduced sodium one, but I might be mistaken...

Have you tried any type of greens supplement to get in more veggies? The ones I know about is Greens + & the Feast. They have worked well for me.

A little vodka and a sprig of celery-- now you're drinking calories!

Like Dona said, watch the sodium. Manufacturers tend to overdo it with the stuff.

I just found your site. This is great! I just started my own weight loss blog yesterday.

I hope it's okay to drink calories, because I've decided to have a Naked drink every day for lunch. Those claim to have one pound of fruit and veggies in every bottle. And it's so packed full of nutrients that it fills me up. I'd much rather drink that than an over-processed, filled-with-processed-sugar, Slim-Fast-type drink.

Vegetable juice is fine. I have a glass of Motts Garden Cocktail (only available in Canada, I believe) every night for dinner. And low-fat milk is fine, too.

With the people on TBL, they would need to be a lot stricter about things like that, so telling them not to drink any of their calories is probably the best thing FOR THEM right at that moment. But then, there are a lot of things that would be right for them that you wouldn't want to necessarily do at home.

John - the only bad thing about V8 is the sodium content but if you don't have issues with sodium its a great way to get your vitamins and minerals in without having to eat veggies constantly. I wish I liked it, I struggle to get my required vegetables in every day!

Hey John,

Sure it's OK if it is fitting into your daily calories! She is talking the poison stuff, but it's pretty important to watch what good stuff goes in too. It all adds up. But if it is fitting in, then you are fine! Hmm I haven't tried the spicy one, might give it a crack!
