Weekly Update - 1/6/2008

January 7, 2008 · 10 comments

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 266
  • Today’s weight: 268
  • Week weight gain: 2 lbs
  • Total weight lost: 27 lbs

Stepping up and reporting a two pound weight gain sucks, particularly when on Friday I had actually weighed in with a two pound loss for the week.  But a weekend of too much eating and drinking conspired to make a wreck of it, and it did it.  Frankly I’m in no mood this morning to write this post but I’m doing it because that’s what I do - and therein is the power of writing about this journey.  It would be so easy to skip writing today, then a week, and before you know it, to stop.  And my journey from fat to fit right along with it.  It’s not going to happen, though.  Sucking it up for another week back at it.

Things I did well this week:

  • I controlled my eating well until the weekend.
  • I focused on drinking a lot of water and did that well until the weekend.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • No strength training.
  • Only one day of cardio.
  • I snowshoed once this weekend but could have taken the time to do a lot more - it was great exercise.
  • Unrelented eating on the weekend.  Actually the drinking wasn’t too bad, it was mostly the eating.

That graph is just not looking good.  It’s looking more like a fishhook now than a plateau.

Time to recommit.

john, like i said, just be patient. you’re not alone in this case. maybe you should try to impose a little bit more self-discipline in terms of drinking and eating. just stick to your usual diet and you’ll be just fine. a gradual decrease in food intake will help a lot.

How is the tale of the tape coming along?

I feel your pain, I just got a message on my voice mail asking me to come over for the Monday game BYOB.

Good luck. Just stick with it and eventually you’ll start losing again. Remember how fustrated I was a while back? Now the weight is falling off again. I think half the battle is patience. It might be worth tracking your food intake for a few days to see how you can improve. Good luck.

Hiya, this is my first post have subscribed to your feed for quite a while being on a weight loss journey myself. Some weeks you have good and some weeks you have bad.
The only comment I would make is stop weighing yourself midweek. If you see that you have done well midweek sometimes you subconciously (sorry not a great speller) don’t try as hard for the rest of the week.
You may not be the same as me but that’s what I have found.
Think that you are doing fantastic though!! Keep it up

Hey John… don’t give up my friend. You sound determined so just take this as a bump in the road & keep on going strong. I say this from experience because last year I had lost about 25 lbs & more than 50 inches but because I stopped seeing progress on the scale for more than 2 months, I lost focus & here I am again back at square one. That’s why I think inches are so much more important than weigh-ins so take a look at that progress as well. Get your cardio & strength traning back up & you should be good to go.

You’re doing a great job!

Hey John! Wow! I’m glad you post your weight gains along with the losses. You are doing great on the overall weight loss! Getting out snowshoeing is great exercise! I haven’t done that in years.

Somewhere along the way I got sidetracked… hopefully I’m back to blogging full time once again. Things are getting back to normal around here. Whatever normal is. So along with blogging about it, maybe I’ll have some good losses to post too. LOL That’s the goal…

Another thing you did well this week:

You posted your gain for the week even though you weren’t in the mood to do it. That tells me that you’re committed to this come hell or high water and that you’ll do whatever it takes, even if you have some setbacks along the way.

Now just back away from the food and you’ll have it made! ;-)

I hate reporting gains. I agree with Skinny, that you did another thing right by reporting it. Keeps you accountable and wanting it even more next week.

Hi John, I agree with Michaela, weighing once a week is more than enough. When I’ve weighed in more than that I’ve played head games with myself, thinking, “it’s ok that I eat that stuff, I’ve already lost a pound or two!” Before I knew it it backfired on me, big time.

You’re really doing a great job. Keep it up and you’ll be back on track in no time. :)
