Catching Up on Christmas

December 28, 2007 · 12 comments

The week went by too fast - which always seems to happen when I am on vacation.  So time to get caught up on a few things around here.  First of all you may remember that I was worried about this week from a diet standpoint - we hosted a big feast on Sunday, and then went to big dinners on Monday and Tuesday.  Predictably, I ate way too much at every meal.  I didn’t go crazy like I would have in the past, but I definitely did go over good sense.  And since then I’ve had more than my share of leftover Christmas cookies, toffee, brittle, you name it.  Now that I am writing this I am reminding myself that the diet starts up again, right now.

I did, however, do a little planning in anticipation of this.  I took the week off from strength training but I planned to do extra cardio and so far I have logged almost 10 miles in the last 4 days, and that includes 30 minutes on Christmas morning.  So I feel good about that.  My unofficial weigh-in this morning had me at 266, the same as I weighed in on Sunday.  So I am almost assured of not hitting my monthly goal of 261, but losing a pound this week is still doable.

I monkeyed about with the blog a little bit adding a new header graphic and links to popular articles.  I don’t really like the image as it sports all women, and with me being a guy and all maybe it would be better to go with an image with at least some men in it.  But this the best I could find for now and I wanted to make a change.

Finally, I did a little closet cleaning.  At this point I am wearing jeans in size 38 or 40 and dockers/dress pants in size 40.  I bagged up 12 pairs of pants that were either a big size 40, or anything higher.  Most of what I got rid of were 42s but I did have a couple of 44s.  I kept one pair of 44s as a reminder for where I have come from.  I added a few shirts and things that had to go for reasons other than size, and today I’ll drop them off at Goodwill.

I’m ready for 2008.

Hi John.

It’s always have good to have a plan for the holidays, and unlike you, I didn’t have one…. Common sense left me halfway through the third party about a week or so ago back :)

Nice…. did you give your old pants away? I love packing away clothes that are too big for me.

I think I see one man….far left? :)

Hi John,
It is great to get rid of clothes that are too big for ourselves. It is even better to be able to go out and shop for new ones.:)

Keep up the great work you are doing for yourself!

44? Try 56-58. They don’t fit anymore.

We’re going to have to race to 250 though. I’m at 284.4 now. Let’s make it a competition. ;)

As for shopping for new clothes, I just can’t yet. Losing weight like I am I’m too scared to have to buy even more in another month or 2. And when it comes to shopping, I’m a typical guy. I’ll spend hours in the electronics department but 10 seconds in the clothing department is too much.

I like the new header, and I agree with workout mummy there seems to be a man in the far left.
I can hardly wait to get to the point where my clothes become too big, I’ve decided not to buy anything new until I have something that doesn’t fit anymore

Sharon - clothes went to Goodwill, and they all in perfect shape (I did throw a couple of pairs away that weren’t) so someone should do well with them.

Shirley - thanks for the comment. I’m not ready to do too much of the new clothes buying shopping yet, but I do like to shop, so I am looking forward to it.

Saphyrm - well I don’t wear my pants over my belly, so if I did with my 50″ waist size I suspect my pants size would need to be a lot bigger. I like clothes shopping myself - but I’d like it a lot more when the clothes actually look good on me!

Workout mommy & Abimars - Looking at the original photo it’s clear the person on the left is also a woman. :-)

I did mean that MY pants are 56-58. I’ve ended up wearing a lot of jogging pants and shorts for now because they stretch and fit more than others like jeans and dress pants. Although, when I wear my old jogging pants, I have to wear shorts under them or they fall off. ;)

And yeah, if I looked good in clothes, I would probably start liking to shop for them.

What’s better than retiring pants that have become too large? Nothing comes to mind right now. Keep up the good work!

How about getting into those size 36 jeans I still have boxed up? :-) It will be awhile…

Amen brother! Preach it! I’ve got a sport coat hanging up I still want to get into.

you guys are making me jealous with all your pants talk. I havent been able to drop any significant weight in december, maybe its mental, maybe its due to the surgery, but either way it’s not fun.

I’m glad someone is losing and having success. here’s to having an awesome january….
