Weekly Update - 12/09/2007

December 9, 2007 · 11 comments

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 267
  • Today’s weight: 266
  • Week weight loss: 1 lbs
  • Total weight lost: 29 lbs

I didn’t have losing 30 pounds as one of my official milestones (50 is the first one), but there is no question that the “decades” represent a significant accomplishment.  To say “I’ve lost 30 pounds” would sound so much better than the “I’ve lost 29 pounds” I would need to say should someone ask.  So I was a little bummed this morning when I realized it would have to be another week before I could officially report a 30 pound loss.  I am not down on myself for the scale results, because frankly I didn’t make the kind of good decisions this week needed to see success.  So I am using this as a reminder that I am on a weight loss program and that I have to kick it up a notch, particularly this holiday month.

Things I did well this week:

  • Lifted weights 3 times during the week after having taken a couple of weeks off.
  • Increased weights in 8 different exercises in my strength training program.  This is just another reminder that periodic rests of a week give the muscles time to grow, I felt so much stronger this week.
  • No major food binges.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • When I got back from Munich on Saturday my wife was hosting a cookie making party.  Talk about walking into the maelstrom!  The problem was one of her friends made these fiendish date cookies that my wife didn’t like but I thought were the best Christmas cookie ever.  And rather than being made into the size of a walnut they were made into the size of a golf ball.  And after everyone left there was a whole pan of these cookies left over, and since my wife didn’t like them she never put them away.  So I was grazing on those cookies all week, 2 or 3 at a time, until finally a couple of days ago she wrapped them up and stored what was left.  Oh man they were good.
  • I didn’t do a lick of cardio.  I was so gung-ho to run outside like I had done in Paris but the cold and the snow had other plans and I just couldn’t work up the thought to hit the treadmill.  I’m going to have to get over that one soon.  Fortunately I will be in Chicago on Monday and Tuesday, and I have used the treadmill at the hotel before - so I shouldn’t have any problem starting the routine up again.
  • Breakfast yesterday was 4 pieces of leftover pizza.  I can do better than that.

My son and I are going skiing today, so that should kick up my energy levels and my desire to get back to running.  It will also be interesting to see if I can notice an improvement in my skiing because of the weight loss.  Not sure how long we are going to last though - it’s only 4 degrees fahrenheit right now with a high of 16 on the day.

Good luck to everyone, this is a tough month for those of us trying to lose weight - let’s stick together and get through this!

“but there is no question that the “decades” represent a significant accomplishment.”

They certainly do. Way to go. Now go celebrate by eating two slices of tasty delicious pizza.

Have fun skiing, but before you go, wish me luck. My wife is going to a cookie swap this afternoon and will be coming home with about 12 dozen Christmas cookies. I think I have my work cut out for me!

ugh. I’m one away from 20, but my wife is making christmascookies today, and trying to get me to be the taste tester. It’s going to be a tough day, but I too am mentally stuck on the “decades”. Keep up the good work, man.

I’m waiting for the elusive 75! Great work and I celebrate every pound, but get excited with the 5′s. WW’s hands out little gold stars for each 5 pound loss, so I’m working on my 15th!

LOL I just LOOK at a cookie and it teleports to my hips.

Congrats on the the 29 lb loss… especially during these tempting holiday meals! I know what you mean about the cookies though. I make some simply delicious yet evil chocolate chip cookies that everyone loves & I always find myself eating the leftover cookies dough or a cookie here and there. As a matter of fact, I have about 600 cookies to make during this week and the next & I am vowing to only eat 1 per batch ( and only one a day). at less than 150 cals each - it makes for a good treat. :D

Keep up the GREAT work!!!

The weather is palying a major factor in my walking goal. I have had to hang out at the mall to get my steps in. Which is great until I have to walk past the pretzel stand. I figured that one out though. I leave my money locked in the car trunk. No money, no pretzel.

I am here to support you in your goal. We all can acheive our dream!!! :)

congrats. I have noticed that you have been doing it in a slow and steady way. either way it adds up. 30 lbs is a lot!

Hey John, 29 pounds is nothing to discount. Keep on going and you could be reporting 30 before the end of the month, if not sooner!

BTW, do you fly for a living? Just wondering because of the travels you’ve mentioned. :)
