I don’t know why but purchasing a heart rate monitor really makes me feel like I am serious now about this weight loss thing. After having my treadmill report I was bumping up against my maximum heart rate I thought it would be a good idea to buy a proper heart rate monitor that straps to my chest, rather than something that tries to read it in a couple of seconds through my hands. Plus, by getting a good heart rate monitor I could monitor my heart rate throughout the workout, rather than just during periods of rest or slowdown.
After reading around a little bit I decided on the Omron HR-100C Heart Rate Monitor.
This heart rate monitor is rated 4 stars on Amazon. Most of the complaints about it are centered on it being inaccurate and having a short battery life. In my opinion it seems very accurate and consistent during a workout when I have a sweat going (which is when I care about my heart rate). I haven’t used it long enough to see about the battery life.
The chest strap is comfortable and big enough for me, although I wouldn’t want to be much bigger as I do have it stretched almost all the way. I believe it said it was rated to 55 inches. The receiver is a fully functioning watch which is great for me because I needed a watch for my outdoor runs. It also comes with an adaptor so you could mount the receiver to a bike as well as a nice carrying case.
If you are looking for a good, inexpensive heart rate monitor I would recommend it.
