Weekly Update - 10/7/07

October 7, 2007 · 7 comments

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 279
  • Today’s weight: 278
  • Week weight lost: 1 lb
  • Total weight lost: 17 lbs

I knew going into this month that it was going to be a challenge because of a 4 day trip to Chicago this week and another 3 day trip the week after next.  So I set my goal for the month at a modest 5 pounds lost.  If I can lose 1 pound during my travel weeks and 2 pounds during the others I’ll have beat my goal for the month.  So that’s what I’m going for in terms of results.

In terms of decisions, I need to improve a lot.  I got lucky this week to have my result be a loss because overall I didn’t do great.  This is when forcing myself to write about it can help - I need to remember that I am trying to change my routines and how I interact with food.  That will take a lot more will-power than I have shown to date, despite seeing some early success.

Things I did well this week:

  • About the only thing I stuck to plan on was Cardio, which I did 3 times for 37 minutes each session.  However, even with this I stepped back some because I did not fully follow my normal interval, walking more than usual so my miles and mph were down on the week.  I’m only putting this on as a did well because I did one of the sessions in my hotel in Chicago, which is still a big deal for me.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • Ate a huge meal while out with co-workers in Chicago.
  • Ate a lot of pizza at my daughter’s birth-day party on Saturday.
  • Did NO strength training the entire week.
  • Did not meet my drinking water goals.

Given my poor decisions this week I am elated to have stayed in the 270s.  I thought there was a good chance I was going to wake up this morning to 280 and I am relieved that was not the case.   There are no excuses for me this week, time to dig in my heels.

Congrats one step closer! Keep those heels dug in and be gentle with yourself - you don’t have to be perfect just never give up. :)

Congrats on the loss John! And btw, don’t know if I ever told you, I like how you post “what I did/didn’t do well” at the end of every week.

Do you think that because you’ve made such efforts to build your fitness over the last few months, you were able to emerge from this less than stellar week with a loss? I often wonder this. I think I’m finding that over time, I notice I’m burning calories more efficiently, so even when I drop the ball a bit (such is life)-I don’t backslide as much as I think I would, or as much as I did at the beginning. As long as I get right back on track…I’m okay. I think in the long run, we’re building a solid foundation that might carry us through the bad spots a bit better. I also like the “what I did well” “what I didn’t” thing you do each week. Very grounding.

I think that your metabolism has improved and that is the reason for the loss. Of course that won’t carry you through too much longer but I don’t think it will have to, as you are striving to live right. I must agree with poundslayer and Angela. I really like the well/not well recap. I think that it is a very good way to face your failures and victories, so that eventually you will be left with significantly more victories.

At least you stuck to the cardio part of your plan. And that’s something. You didn’t give up, despite the pizza, huge meal in Chicago, and other setbacks. So congratulations.
