Weekly Update - 9/30/07

September 30, 2007 · 5 comments

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 282
  • Today’s weight: 279
  • Week weight lost: 3 lbs
  • Total weight lost: 16 lbs

Today’s weigh-in is bittersweet. On the one hand I made it into the 270s, which is huge for me. On the other hand, my goal for the end of this month was to get to 278, so I missed it by this much. Worse, I weighed myself yesterday and the scale showed 278 so I thought I was golden. I know enough now not to be worried by daily weight fluctuations, so I am OK with it, however it makes me mad I couldn’t get there. Part of the problem was I didn’t get to do any cardio yesterday because I hurt my knee a little bit playing soccer with my son (I was practicing left footed kicks and I think that knee just isn’t used to that stress).

Things I did well this week:

  • For my cardio program I Started Week 2 of the Couch-to-5k.
  • Lifted weights every day, and increased weights in a bunch of exercises.
  • Kept track of my water drinking and on most days hit my goal.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • A couple extra slices of pizza on Thursday and then snacked on the leftovers a couple of times yesterday.
  • Didn’t eat very many vegetables.

October is going to be a tough month because I have a couple of trips to Chicago, with two different hotels so I have 2 more foreign gyms to get comfortable with. I’m setting a manageable goal of losing 5 pounds for the month.

Congrats! I knew you would be losing again this week! I set mini goals like you do, but I don’t set a time frame. I just set them and then celebrate when I hit them. My next mini goal is 180 and I thought I might be hitting that by the end of September, but apparently not. PMS had other ideas.

A great loss. I know you already do, but try to focus on the “sweet” part of bittersweet.

I think you had a great week! Good work, John. I’m working on a different blogging project right now that has been sucking up my time, but I wanted to make sure I checked in…I knew you’d do well. Three pounds is impressive-especially at this stage of the game.

JanB - Thanks so much! I think setting mini goals without timeframes is a better way to do it, and actually I sort of do both. I have my specific times goals but I also have milestones that are more time independent. Things like fitting into those size 38 pants hanging in my closet. :-)

All - thanks for your support. I am always going to be happy with a 3 pound loss, I have to remember that.
