Losing Weight is Like the Stock Market

When you look at the long term performance of the stock market the trend is clear - it goes up. This chart looks amazingly like my weight gain over the years where you don’t really notice it at any given point but once 20 years have passed you see the trend. And it’s up!

One key to weight loss is to realize that the reverse is true as well. This journey is like the flip side of that stock chart - steady progression, with the occasional bumps in the road, but all leading toward a downward trend.

Remember that when you have a bad day or even a bad week - you need to focus on the long term trend.

That is a great perspective. I really need to hear this right now. Thanks

“once 20 years have passed you see the trend.”

For some of us it goes much faster. And that is often a good thing.

It’s so true. Weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint and it’s a long term investment!

Glad to hear the (analogy, metaphor? I never remember which is which) resonated. Equally glad nobody pointed out that the market can crash and take a long time to recover!!
