I'm going a little off-topic here, so forgive me if all you want to hear about is my fat!  Yesterday DreamHost, the web hosting provider I use, suffered some sort of network outage for most of the afternoon.  This effected not only my site but from what I could tell pretty much any site hosted on DreamHost.  They characterized it by network slowness, but what I saw was a complete outage.  You couldn't even get to the DreamHost front page.  And then even though they host the DreamHost Status page on a different network (a good idea!) it too was down for awhile, most likely due to heavy load.

Now, up to now I have had little to complain about at DreamHost.  They are cheap, and they have a cool deal where the longer you are as a customer the more bandwidth and disk space you get.  I really like that approach.  I like many of their features like one-click installs. And I like their blog.  So, I am going to stay with them and hope that they are able to learn from this outage so it doesn't happen again.

If you are looking for a web host provider I would still recommend DreamHost at this time.  However, if you wanted to check out some of the competition in this space you can research other web hosting packages.
