Weekly Update - 8/12/07

  • Diet starting weight: 295
  • Week starting weight: 292
  • Today’s weight: 291
  • Week weight lost: 1 lb
  • Total weight lost: 4 lbs

This was my first full week on my big weight loss journey.  This first week was not about losing weight, it was about picking up some good habits, getting some education, and most importantly, starting to establish a support network.

Things I did well this week:

  • After learning how bad movie theatre popcorn is I did a good job when I took the kids to the Simpsons yesterday - just Diet Coke for me please.
  • I (mostly) accurately recorded all my meals for the week on The Daily Plate.  I don’t plan to do this forever, but I needed to do it to see just how far off from plan my normal eating is.
  • I am a creature of habit, and I have eating routines built up around places like McDonald’s, Noodles and Brueggers.  In each place I cut significantly the amount of food I would normally eat.  No, eating a Sausage Egg McMuffin and a Hashbrown is not a good breakfast when on a diet, but it’s a lot better than also having a Steak Breakfast Bagel, which is what I normally would have done.  One bagel and cream cheese and a cup of soup instead of two bagels and a bowl, etc. 
  • I posted on here every day and took some significant leaps for me like posting pictures.  Yes, I cropped my head.  Not quite ready for that yet.
  • I found a number of other bloggers who are actively posting, some of whom have achieved most of their goals like Shauna, some of who made huge strides but who are not all the way there yet like Lady Rose, and others like the Pound Slayer who like me are just starting out.

Things I did not so well this week:

  • I binged on pizza Friday night after having a couple of beers. 
  • I did very little exercise, about 30 minutes of DDR and that was it.
  • I have not yet put my weight loss goals down in writing, although I think my first number will be 279 by my doctor’s appointment in October.
  • I had a Peanut Buster Parfait at DQ last night, and I licked up every last bit of hot fudge.  My son and I could have split something at least.
  • One word - Nutella.

Off to a good start.  My main goal this week will be to start the exercising.

Great week John! I’m going to check out The Daily Plate.

Those small changes in portion sizes and calories consumed will make a big difference in the long run, so don’t be discouraged just because your diet isn’t perfect yet.

And the stuff you mentioned that you did poorly on is just a list of opportunities for doing better in the weeks that follow. At least that’s how I look at my own shortcomings hehehe.

That’s a great week! Good for you! When I first linked to you, I didn’t realize this was your first week. We are pretty much in the starting gate together.
